10th Gen Intel Core i5-10600 with Z490 Motherboard Spotted: Gets Destroyed By AMD’s Ryzen 5 3600

Intel’s 10th gen Comet Lake-S CPUs have started popping up on various databases and benchmarks lately but we haven’t seen any concrete scores, until now. The 3DMark 11 Extreme benchmark of the 10th Gen Core i5-10600 just surfaced, giving us an idea of what to expect from Intel’s 10th Gen desktop lineup. Let’s have a look:

So, here’s a comparison of the Ryzen 5 3600 and the Core i5-10600. Rather pathetic, isn’t it? Although the latter comes with hyperthreading unlocked, it still can’t keep up with AMD’s 7nm budget CPU. Getting beaten is one thing, but this is just plain annihilation. A physics score of 13K for the Intel Comet Lake-S part versus 20K for the Ryzen 5. And this, folks, is a yet unannounced CPU. Granted, the core clocks will be much higher at launch but no overclock will bring that chip on par with the 3600.

And let’s consider the time of launch. The Comet Lake-S desktop CPUs are expected to launch by the end of Q1 2020. By then, AMD will be prepping to unveil its Zen 3 lineup with higher clock speeds and potentially higher core counts too. Intel, on the other hand, is coming out with a part that can’t even compete with the exiting 3rd Gen Ryzen products.

This sample of the Core i5-10600 was running at 3.3GHz (base) and well the boost clock isn’t finalized. Meaning this is an engineering sample. I’d reckon it can achieve boost clocks as high as 4.7-4.8GHz and yes that will provide a healthy boost to the scores, but it still won’t be enough to stand against AMD’s Matisse offerings, let alone the 4th Gen Vermeer parts. The only way this is gonna work if the prices are considerably lower. It’ll depend on how Intel handles the whole thing. We’ll keep you posted.
