6700 XT: plastics still there on PowerColor thermal pads

Ouch, a small mistake for PowerColor, some RX 6700 XT are leaving the factory… With the plastic protection of the thermal pads still in place. Indeed, this error was discovered by a customer who, upon receipt of his card, noticed that plastics were protruding from the radiator of his card.

In this case, the card was assembled on the lines with the plastics of the thermal pads. However, one can legitimately ask the question: but how did it pass the quality control? In short, this heatsink fell through the cracks. It’s unfortunate, but when you consider the large volume of cards to be processed, errors always happen.

With these plastics in place, it is less heat dissipation. As you can see, they are present on the memory chip pads as well as on the power supply pads… If the user had used the card before noticing the problem, it would have heated up and its frequencies would have dropped drastically, or even worse.

In this case, the user (angry_kitten on reddit) had to dismantle his card to rectify the situation. And very often, dismantling a graphics card heatsink means taking the risk of losing its warranty. Nevertheless, considering the current situation, we can understand that he didn’t want to send his card back to the after-sales service… If it’s to wait for a long time before getting a new card… Is it worth it? Especially since it’s only a few plastics to remove.
