AMD releases Radeon Software Crimson ReLive Edition 17.8.1

AMD has released a new WHQL graphics driver set. Radeon Software Crimson ReLive Edition 17.8.1 delivers WHQL support for the new Radeon RX Vega Series graphics cards. Gamers will also be happy to hear that the new software includes support / optimisations for Quake Champions Early Access and Agents of Mayhem, as well as a bunch of bug fixes.

If you are one of the early adopters of the AMD Radeon RX Vega graphics cards (Radeon RX Vega 64 and RX Vega 56), this driver set is the first WHQL-signed driver to provide support for your shiny new hardware. Previously you had to rely on a beta driver. AMD doesn’t list any optimisations for the new RX Vega GPUs, however it does, in general, say the new drivers “effortlessly boost performance and efficiency,” and have been rigorously tested for stability.

Agents of Mayhem was announced back in June by Deep Silver and Volition, who previously delivered the wacky Saints Row series. The game was released a week ago and now modern Radeon GPU users have an optimised driver to test out. AMD hasn’t put forward any claims about improved performance or similar – if you have the game please test it out and give us some feedback.

Bethesda’s Quake Champions Early Access is also named as gaining newfound support in RSCRE 17.8.1. The early access gaming window opens today. Eventually this game is going to be available as an F2P title with the ability to purchase individual extra champions for this fast paced competitive FPS.

AMD has listed a number of fixed issues delivered by RSCRE 17.8.1. For gamers there are pleasing fixes for wrinkles in Grand Theft Auto V, Forza Horizon 3, and Tekken 7 specifically. Furthermore, AMD has fixed various issues with FreeSync, Enhanced Sync, HDR TV output, and HDCP errors in Blu-ray replay.

Of course a number of issues remain and hopefully AMD will iron them out by the next update. You can read more about the new driver on the release notes page, where you will also find direct download links for the driver for both Windows 7 and Windows 10 in either 32- or 64-bit editions.
