Apple Watch Camera? CMRA’s Strap Will Put A Cam On Your Wrist

The Apple Smartwatch might be one of the high-end smart devices in the market, but it still doesn’t have the ability to capture images and videos. The company has likely avoided endowing the device with a camera since it would affect the battery life.

Glide, an Israel- and Bay-based startup has come up with a unique solution — CMRA, a smartwatch strap that will add a 2-megapixel selfie camera and an 8-megapixel watch-front camera that captures whatever is in front of the device.

“The camera is only valuable when it is out and ready to take a photo or video. Our phones live in our pockets,” Glide CEO Ari Roisman told Recode on Tuesday.

The hardware will be available for pre-order starting Wednesday. The device will cost $249 in the market but will retail at launch at $199 and for $149 in early bird offer. CMRA will use the Apple Watch as a viewfinder, but it will work even when the device is switched off. The device can store videos and photos in its 8GB built-in storage.

Roisman added that CMRA has been in the works for 18 months and preproduction units with final components are completely ready.
