A $499 Full HD Chromebook with Core m3 processor, 4-8GB RAM, and USB-C charging could prove popular.
CES 2017 is just over a week away, and some products set to be unveiled will go on sale almost immediately. One of those products is expected to be a new Chromebook from Asus, but it looks as though Newegg jumped the gun and listed it early.
If you’re considering a Chromebook purchase, then be sure to check out the new Asus C302A before deciding which one to buy. It hasn’t been officially confirmed by Asus yet, but Newegg let the cat out of the bag with a full listing and price for the machine.
In return for $499 of your hard earned cash you get the following:
- Intel Core m3-6Y30 Processor (4MB Cache, up to 2.2GHz)
- 12.5 inch FHD (1920 by 1080) Touch Display (300 nits) with 360 degree hinge
- 4GB LPDDR3 RAM
- 64GB EMMC Flash storage
- Dimensions: 11.97 by 8.27 by 0.54 inches
- Weight: 2.65 pounds
- Bluetooth 4.2
- 2 x USB3.1-Type C
- 1 x Headphone-out and Audio-in Combo Jack
- Illuminated Chiclet Keyboard
- Micro SD Card Slot
The C302CA looks to have fully embraced USB-C, meaning it will be used for charging. That should also mean connection to an external USB power bank is possible to keep the power flowing away from an outlet.
Chrome Unboxed managed to order one before Newegg took the listing down, but has yet to receive shipping confirmation. There’s also thought to be an model with 8GB of RAM planned, which would make this an even better proposition for the cash. As will the fact it’s a convertible, allowing it to function as a tablet when the display is tilted all the way back.
With the listing appearing, meaning Newegg probably has stock, I’d bet money on Asus revealing the C302CA during CES next week. If it looks as good as the pictures, combined with the spec listed above and USB-C charging, it should prove to be a very popular Chromebook next year.
