Install Audacity in Ubuntu via Terminal; Here’s how to install Audacity 2.2.0 via PPA in Ubuntu 17.10 and Ubuntu 17.04. Audacity is free, open source, cross-platform audio software for multi-track recording and editing.

Audacity can record live audio through a microphone or mixer, or digitize recordings from other media. It can easily import sound files, edit them, and combine them with other files or new recordings. Export your recordings in many different file formats, including multiple files at once. It supports 16-bit, 24-bit and 32-bit (floating point) samples and formats are converted using high-quality resampling and dithering. It supports plugins too, support for LADSPA, LV2, Nyquist, VST and Audio Unit effect plug-ins.

Install Audacity

Run the following commands in Terminal to install Audacity in Ubuntu via Terminal; Audacity 2.2.0 via PPA in Ubuntu 17.10 and Ubuntu 17.04:

sudo apt-get update
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntuhandbook1/audacity
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install audacity

Once installed, open Audacity from Ubuntu Dash.
