BattlEye still defective in the latest Windows Insider patch

An update compatibility issue is still affecting BattlEye users participating in the Windows Insider Program, Microsoft has confirmed.

The perennial problem rears its ugly head each time an Insider attempts to upgrade to a Windows 10 preview build that is incompatible with their current version of BattlEye. It now persists despite the latest update (Build 19569) resolving multiple issues that impacted some Insiders.

If you are using an incompatible version of the anti-cheat software, you will not be able to update to an affected Windows Insider Preview build.

BattlEye and Microsoft have found incompatibility issues due to changes in the operating system between some Insider Preview builds and certain versions of BattlEye anti-cheat software. To safeguard Insiders who might have these versions installed on their PC, we have applied a compatibility hold on these devices from being offered affected builds of Windows Insider Preview.

Uninstalling BattlEye or your game may solve the problem

Perhaps Microsoft is unable to liaise with BattlEye and game developers fast enough to ensure a smooth transition each time it rolls out a Windows 10 update to Insiders.

The company recommends that you uninstall your game or BattlEye to sidestep the incompatibility issue in the meantime. It is a temporary price to pay if you are enthusiastic about staying up to date with the latest prelaunch Windows 10 enhancements.

The problem appears to be in the inherent nature of anti-cheat solutions, primarily how they work. They usually focus on low-level system micro-functions or processes, some of which change with each OS upgrade.

So, there are bound to be compatibility troubles if the software or gaming partners in question do not move swiftly enough to verify legitimate Windows 10 changes and update their products accordingly.

Other persistent concerns

Some PCs are taking longer than usual to update to the latest build. Microsoft acknowledged the issue and said that a probe was underway. Recently, the company announced that its futuristic Windows 10X OS would be installing updates in less than 90 seconds.

Failure to install a new build is another issue that Insiders are reporting to the Redmond-based company. The glitch triggers error 0x8007042b.

While Microsoft is investigating it, you may explore these practical fixes any time you encounter the Windows 10 update malfunction.
