Microsoft announced on Wednesday that it will be attending this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) on June 11, Sunday at 2 p.m. PT (5 p.m. ET). The company also teased that it will be delivering “big news” about the Xbox Project Scorpio.
Microsoft announced the E3 2017 press briefing on its official Twitter page. The most significant thing about the tweet is was the photo attached to it. The photo depicts an ultra HD 4K chip, the same one that the company showed at last year’s E3 conference to tease the Xbox Project Scorpio.
Microsoft is expected to finally shed some light on Project Scorpio’s hardware. The things that have been confirmed by the company so far is that the next generation console is that it will be 4.5 times more powerful than the Xbox One capable of playing games at UHD 4K at 60fps, accoridng to CNET. The console is also said to be capable of delivering better quality virtual reality.
“The next step-change for gamers and developers must deliver true 4K gaming and high-fidelity VR experiences to the console,” head of Xbox Phil Spencer said back in June 2016.
“Project Scorpio will be the first console with 6 teraflops of power, which will empower the world’s greatest game creators to fully embrace true 4K gaming without sacrificing quality, generate premier VR experiences, without sacrificing performance, and putting greater graphic fidelity in the hands of the world’s best game creators.”
Since the announcement, Microsoft has mostly been secretive about Project Scorpio only dropping hints and clues as to what to expect from it. No one even knows what the console will look like as Microsoft only keeps on showing the same photo of the UHD 4K chip when talking about it.
It’s possible that Microsoft will finally unveil what Project Scorpio will look like during its E3 2017 press briefing. The upcoming console is scheduled to be released during the 2017 holiday season.
