A render for Samsung’s Galaxy Note 8 has surfaced online, and it hints at a major feature that didn’t make the cut on the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus. The newly leaked image shows that the Note 8 won’t have a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor.
The newly leaked render for the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 was share on Twitter by Poyoco Tech, which claims to be a page that delivers “latest leaks and renders of upcoming tech gadgets.” As for the render itself, the Galaxy Note 8 appears to borrow the same design language of the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus.
The Note 8 appears to use the same Infinity Display design that was introduced by Samsung for the Galaxy S8 giving it the edge-to-edge screen look. That really isn’t a huge surprise. IBT reported last week that the Galaxy Note 8 was going to have this feature, along with the 6.3-inch display size.
A recent leak on the Chinese social media site Weibo has suggested that the Infinity Display on the Note 8 would be better than the one that’s on the S8. The corners on the display are said to be even smaller, giving a bit of more space for on-screen content, according to Slash Gear.
What’s really interesting about this leaked render is that it gives a clear look at what the back of the device will be like. We can see that the Note 8 will indeed have dual cameras on the back, a feature that’s been rumored for quite some time now, and no fingerprint scanner in sight.
Both the front and back don’t have a visible hardware feature that distinguishes the fingerprint scanner. This means that Samsung has managed to place the fingerprint sensor underneath the Note 8’s display, something the phone maker failed to accomplish with the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus.
A display-embedded fingerprint scanner for the Note 8 has been speculated before, but this is the first time we’ve seen photographic proof of it. If this leaked render is entirely accurate, then Samsung might have beat Apple to the punch with this kind of technology.
Poyoco Tech also claims that Samsung is trying to perfect the design of the Galaxy Note 8 by “having uniformly aligned ports” at the bottom. The bottom-firing speaker on the Note 8 is also said to be stereo and will be “tuned” by AKG Acoustics. The 3.5mm headphone jack is here to stay, and will be located on the bottom of the Note 8 right next to the USB Type-C port.
Other details about the device also include a textured surface for the dedicated Bixby button, and the S Pen will have the similar design of the S Pen that was included with the Note 7. However, the S Pen on the Note 8 is also said to come with a vibrate feature that can help users easily locate it. The vibrate feature on the S Pen can be activated through the Find My Mobile app that’s available on Samsung’s Galaxy phones.
Poyoco Tech is a new source of leaks and doesn’t have a proven track record yet, as pointed out by BGR. Also, Samsung hasn’t confirmed anything about the Note 8, so it’s best to take all of these with a grain of salt.
