Facebook Messenger adds support for 360 degree Photos and HD quality video

Facebook is making messenger more visual, updating the service to include 360-degree photo, and HD video in a new update.

“Amazing 360-degree photos, and panoramic photos, will give you the ability to share more immersive views of your world – from stunning landscapes to that coveted ocean view from your hotel room, or the way your new apartment looks – the world is your oyster now in Messenger,” Facebook’s Sean Kelly and Hagen Green, gushed over at Facebook’s blog announcing the feature.

It’ll likely be less dramatic as most users probably don’t have anything that urgently needs to be shared in a 360-degree photo. The more useful image would be high-quality video support.

Facebook earlier added support for high-quality image support on Messenger, allowing users to share pictures which would retain most of their original quality, now the firm is extending the same to videos.

Facebook will only let you share up to 720p HD video, but for the majority of users, it should be enough, striking the balance between quality and data usage.

The 360-degree photos are available on WorldWide on iOS and Android, while HD Video is limited to Australia, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Hong Kong, Japan, Netherlands, Norway, Romania, Singapore, South Korea, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, UK and the US.
