Many use Google Chrome as their default browser on Windows PC. At times, users have reported seeing a Profile error occurred message. Normally, the problem disappears on its own. However, if it lasts long then you may need to troubleshoot the problem. 1] As a preliminary step, you need to find what version of Google Chrome you are using i.e., Google Chrome Beta or Google Chrome Canary. For this, open your browser, click on ‘More’ option visible as three vertical dots, scroll down to ‘Help’ section and select ‘About Google Chrome’ option.
Here, you can find if you are on the Beta version of Chrome or Canary. If nothing is mentioned, it’s Chrome Stable version. If it happens to be Chrome Beta or Chrome Canary, it’s advisable to install the stable version of Chrome and see if it helps.
2] If you’re using Chrome Stable channel, check if it’s updated. To find this, Open Chrome, chose ‘More’ (three vertical dots) > Help > About Chrome; You’ll see a blue tick with ‘Chrome up to date’ ). If not, you could update and restart your system to see if it helps.
Restart your computer, launch Chrome and see if the error appears again.
3] If that does not help, keeping the browser closed, navigate the mouse cursor to the following address,
C:Users%username%AppDataLocalGoogleChromeUser DataDefault
Find Web Data file and delete it.
Now, create a new profile. Open the following folder location:
%LOCALAPPDATA%GoogleChromeUser Data
Find the folder named Default. This Default folder happens to be your Google Chrome’s default profile. Rename the folder to Default-Bak.
Now when you launch Chrome next, another folder with a name Default will be created.
See if the problem goes away.
Please note that the solution might not work for all Chrome users as the nature of the problem may vary. Still, if the issue bothers you quite a lot you can backup your browser passwords, etc, and then uninstall Chrome via the Control Panel. Also delete all Chrome related folders and files you can find on your System Drive and then reinstall Chrome afresh.
