While browsing the Internet, we often come across websites that automatically start playing videos with sound. Apart from being annoying, these autoplay videos consume your data as well (matters a lot for users who are on mobile broadband).
These videos are usually placed in the sidebar. On some websites, videos start playing with sound for a second or two, and then the video continues to play without the sound. Annoying autoplay videos are very common these days. And the worst part is, most of the times, these videos are not even related to the content on the webpage.
Browser market leader Google Chrome offers an option to prevent videos from automatically playing. A similar solution can be found in Firefox as well. The good news is that you can now configure Edge to stop autoplaying videos as well.
If you are using Microsoft Edge browser in Windows 10 to browse the web, you can now configure Edge to stop websites from automatically playing videos.
Starting with Windows 10 Redstone 5, you can stop websites from autoplaying videos in Edge. Here is how to turn it on in Edge.
Disable autoplay videos in Microsoft Edge in Windows 10
NOTE: The feature is present in Windows 10 Redstone 5 (version 1809) and later versions only.
Step 1: Open the Edge browser. Click the Settings and more icon (…) and then click Settings.
Step 2: Under Advanced settings section, click View Advanced settings button to open the same.
Step 3: Here, turn off Allow sites to automatically play media option to stop websites from automatically playing videos in Edge browser.
