New Rumors Show AMD APUs Are Going to Wipe the Floor With Intel’s Next-Gen 10nm Ice Lake chips (Ice Lake-U)

AMD Renoir APUs to Feature AMD Vega 10 and Zen 2 Cores

AMD*Intel

Since AMD Zen 2 came out, Intel has been trying to recapture the PC CPU market but, whenever Intel tries to outperform AMD Zen 2, AMD rebounds with better hardware that essentially wipes the floor with their competitors. AMD has been in the lead over Intel in the APU market but, Intel was trying to regain some control with their next-gen 10nm Ice Lake chips. Well, according to the latest rumors, the next-gen AMD APUs are going to wipe the floor with the 10nm Ice Lake chips.

AMD Renoir APUs

According to the latest rumors around the internet, AMD’s next-gen APUs are going to feature Vega-based hardware instead of AMD Navi. As you can see in the image below (leaked by freedesktop.org), one line of code mentions GFX9 which is the ID for AMD Vega while GFX10 is the ID for Navi. According to this rumor, AMD’s next-gen APUs are going to feature Vega hardware but, they will be updated with Zen 2 cores. Essentially, we will be getting about the same level of GPU performance from AMD’s next-gen APUs but, we will get much better CPU performance thanks to the Zen 2 cores. Also, AMD Renoir is going to use AMD’s VCN (Video Core Next) 2.0 hardware.

AMD Reinor APU Leak

AMD Renoir to Destroy 10nm Intel Ice Lake-U

According to Intel’s official benchmarks, their next-gen Ice Lake-U is going to feature an iGPU that will be powerful enough to outperform the AMD Ryzen 7 3700U by a very small margin. Well, unfortunately for Intel it seems like they are not going to be able to outperform the next-gen AMD Renoir APUs. Of course, we don’t have benchmark scores for AMD Renoir but, we can definitely assume that AMD is going to make the Vega APU on Renoir at least 15% more powerful then their current APUs. If that is the case, AMD Renoir is going to destroy the Ice Lake-U. Intel’s only hope is that their CPU is able to outperform AMD’s which is most likely not going to happen.
