Now that Microsoft’s third-party, Xbox Series X showcase Inside Xbox 2020 is now in the books, it stands to reason that a fair chunk of the games that were showcased at that event will be coming to PlayStation 5. So with that in mind, we’ve come up with this handy feature which lets you know which ones will arrive on Sony’s next-generation console, which ones are likely and also, which ones may not.
First though, an important point – when you see and hear Microsoft and their partners use the term ‘console exclusive’ that always isn’t indicative of exclusivity forever, as often such exclusives are only timed but because Microsoft doesn’t want their marketing to be hurt (it was their event after all) it won’t be framed that way.
Which Inside Xbox 2020 Games Are Coming To PS5?
Scarlet Nexus – Coming To PS5 (Confirmed)
Developed and published Bandai Namco, both Microsoft and Bandai Namco were at pains to confirm that Scarlet Nexus is a console exclusive for Xbox Series X. A promising looking action RPG set in a post apocalyptic realm that has been infested with flora themed baddies, Scarlet Nexus was confirmed to be arriving on PlayStation 5 in a press release that Bandai Namco put out on May 8, 2020. Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 – Coming to PS5 (Confirmed)
Already announced to release on PlayStation 4 by the end of the year, no confirmation that Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 would be coming to PlayStation 5 was immediately forthcoming after the Inside Xbox 2020 briefing. Well now just hours later, Paradox Interactive have confirmed that it will in fact release on PS5 alongside PS4 and to prove it, you can see the PS5 logo appear in the official trailer as seen below:
DIRT 5 – Coming To PS5 (Confirmed)
The latest entry in the DIRT rally franchise from Codemasters, we know for sure that DIRT 5 will be arriving on PlayStation 5 later this year as the publisher themselves confirmed this fact in a press release that was hastily put out after the event as you can see below:
“Deep Silver today announced DIRT 5, the next-gen continuation of Codemasters’ incredibly lifelike rally sim, will recklessly tear through corners starting October 2020 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and PC, with an arrival on Google Stadia set for early 2021.”
Chorus: Rise As One – Coming to PS5 (Confirmed)
An ambitious looking space shooter from publisher Deep Silver and developer FISHLABS with a deep, cinematic storyline, Chorus was confirmed to release on PlayStation 5 sometime in 2021 according to the official press release which can be glimpsed below:
Deep Silver today revealed Chorus, a peerless pilot’s tale of redemption set within an enthralling galaxy harboring mystery, danger, and game-changing new abilities. Aided by their sentient ship, players will face insurmountable forces in zero-G combat, explore ancient temples, and slip past the edge of reality in this thrilling campaign among the stars.
Chorus will reach Xbox One, Xbox Series X, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Google Stadia in 2021.
Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla – Coming to PS5 (Confirmed)
Definitely a complete no-brainer, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla was already previously confirmed to arrive on PlayStation 5 prior to the Inside Xbox 2020 presentation. Moving on then!
Bright Memory: Infinite – Coming to PS5 (Extremely Likely)
Arguably one of the most eye-opening portions of the presentation, Bright Memory: Infinite is the stupendous work of a single individual that looks like a heady, first-person cross between Shadow Warrior and The Matrix. Though an official Bright Memory: Infinite PS5 release has not yet been announced, a PlayStation 5 version is definitely expected based off of comments its sole developer made to SegmentNext recently:
“Xiancheng also stated that Bright Memory: Infinite should be able comfortably to run on 4K resolution at 60 frames per second on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, albeit without ray tracing enabled.”
Yakuza: Like A Dragon – Coming to PS5 (Extremely Likely)
A surprise announcement for Xbox Series X, we already knew that Yakuza: Like A Dragon was destined for PlayStation 4 prior to the Inside Xbox 2020 briefing. Though it’s more than a little odd that a PlayStation 5 version wasn’t confirmed when other publishers had done so (see Codemasters and Deep Silver further up in this article, respectively), it would be something approaching a mortal sin if Yakuza: Like A Dragon doesn’t release on PlayStation 5. Trust us. It’ll happen.
The Medium – Coming to PS5 (Somewhat Likely)
A third-person horror effort that marries the talents of Blair Witch and Layers of Fear developer Bloober Team with the musical genius of legendary Silent Hill composer Akira Yamaoka, there was no press release announcing that The Medium would be coming to PlayStation 5.
However, not only have all previous Bloober Team titles made it to PlayStation platforms in the past, but the previously released Blair Witch (which was also described as an Xbox console exclusive at the time of its original announcement), also found a home on PS4 too. We think it’s just a matter of time until a PlayStation 5 release for The Medium is announced.
The Ascent – Coming to PS5 (Somewhat Likely)
Viewed from a familiar top-down perspective, The Ascent is an ambitious cyberpunk dungeon crawler that can be played in both single-player and co-operatively with friends. Though The Ascent was announced as an Xbox console exclusive, the game is being published by Curve Digital – a renowned multi-platform indie publisher, so we think that a PS5 release for The Ascent is pretty likely at this stage (even if it hasn’t been formally confirmed or announced as yet).
Second Extinction – PS5 Release Currently Unconfirmed
Coming from the same development studio that brought us Generation Zero, Second Extinction is an FPS that tasks players with mowing down hordes of alien foes that are looking to mop up the last dregs of humanity. Announced as a console exclusive for Xbox Series X, the same caveats apply to this as they do to Scarlett Nexus – until we know more for sure, you shouldn’t expect to see Second Extinction on PlayStation 5 for a considerable stretch of time.
Scorn – PS5 Release Currently Unconfirmed
Originally announced back in 2018, first-person H.R Giger styled horror Scorn certainly made an impression during the Inside Xbox 2020 showcase, but like so many other titles that carried the ‘Xbox Console Exclusive’ badge, no news was forthcoming regarding a potential PlayStation 5 version of the game. As soon as that changes, we’ll be sure to let you know.
Call Of The Sea – PS5 Release Currently Unconfirmed
A lush 1930s tropical adventure that sees players take control of an explorer called Nora who is trying to track down her missing husband on expedition, Call of the Sea is yet another one of the pesky Xbox console exclusives that does not preclude nor deny the fact that the period of exclusivity may in fact be timed. As it is, we’d say not to count our chickens before they hatch and assume that it will be some time before we hear about a Call of the Sea PlayStation 5 release.
