The T2 chip was incorporated in the latest 2018 MacBook Pro that provided the same functionality. As mentioned earlier, the T2 chip is also causing Kernal Panics in the new 2018 MacBook Pro. Owners of the iMac Pro have taken the issue to Apple support forums detailing that their system crashes randomly which leads to Kernel Panics. This means that a small number of 2018 MacBook Pro and iMac Pro owners are facing the issue.
The issue affects users who have connected storage devices to the Thunderbolt 3 port on the iMac Pro. The same issue is present on the MacBook Pro where users have daisy-chained storage devices to their laptops. When going through the logs of the crashes, it seems that the reason behind the issue is T2 chip’s BridgeOS. The crashes occur when the device is resting idle and not under heavy use.
Apple is replacing the iMac Pro of some users in certain cases. In other cases, Apple support representatives recommend users to reinstall macOS and turn off all the features which the T2 chip handles. While not being an ideal solution to the problem, this has worked for most of the users.
