With the iPhone 7 launching in just a couple of days, here’s the definite list of the best cases on offer
14 September 2016
The iPhone 7 is almost here. People have already set up camp outside shops to be first in line for its release on 16 September, but while you’re waiting, why not pick out a case that will offer the best protection for your shiny new iPhone 7?
With the entry-level iPhone 7 costing £599 SIM-free, you’ll want to ensure that even if it does accidentally fall out of your clumsy hands it doesn’t suffer a smashed screen. But you’ll also want something that looks the part – after all, why spend so much money on a sleek-looking device only to ruin the look with a garish case?
With this in mind, we’re here to help guide you through the ever increasing list of cases to help you pick the best one for you and your budget.
An obvious choice, perhaps, but Apple’s new and improved official iPhone case scores pretty high – both in terms of looks and functionality. It’s subtle and has physical buttons on the side, which we didn’t get last year. It’s also nice and slim, so it won’t add too much extra bulk to the handset.
Another great one, if a little expensive, is Apple’s official Smart Battery case. Sure, it adds quite a chunk to the back of your phone, but if you’re wanting to give the phone’s 13-hour battery life a bit more oomph, this will be the case for you.
This full-body case is a little bulky, but it packs some serious military-grade drop protection. Made from materials such as hard polycarbonate, the 0.1in-thick frame should protect your newly purchased iPhone 7 from most drops. Just don’t be throwing it off buildings.

The tech21 Evo Tactical iPhone 7 case is more discreet than some others. It’s pretty simplistic in its looks, yet is nice and sleek so as not to take up too much room in your pocket. It doesn’t offer as much impact protection as some of the others on this list, and you’ll need to get a screen protector too, but it should serve you well nonetheless.
The Defense Lux case isn’t quite as garish as the Gear version, but it still packs a punch when put under pressure. It offers a middle-ground between looks and functionality, so there isn’t that much compromise here. Like its slightly cheaper brother, you’ll benefit from some pretty decent impact protection here.
