The Surface Go 2 will ship with Windows 10 Home in S Mode

Microsoft’s new Surface Go 2 will ship with Windows 10 Home in S mode for most consumers, according to facts sheets spotted online.

Of course, users can still upgrade to Windows 10 Home for free, but it looks like Microsoft is keeping to what it did when it launched the original Surface Go. That is, keeping users locked down into its own Microsoft Store ecosystem of apps by default and right out of the box. There will also be an enterprise and commercial option which will ship with Windows 10 Pro, as well, though the price is not clear as of yet.

Like with the Surface Go, updating to Windows 10 Home in S-mode presumably would take a few simple clicks. Users can open Windows 10 Settings, head to Update and Security, and then choose Activation. Then, under the Switch to Windows 10 Home or Switch to Windows 10 Pro section, users can select Go to the Store and click the Switch out of S Mode link.

Again, switching is a one-way street. There is no going back to S-mode unless you have a recovery image or system backup.
