Danganronpa gets a surprise Xbox release, and it’s on Game Pass too

The popular visual novel makes its way to Xbox.

What you need to know

  • Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc Anniversary Edition has arrived on Xbox and Game Pass.
  • The Anniversary Edition includes a Gallery feature that allows players to view and replay their favorite character moments, dialogue, and sprites.
  • This marks the first time a Danganronpa game has been available in the Xbox ecosystem.

In a surprise release, the Anniversary Edition of the popular 2010 visual novel game Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc has launched on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One. Additionally, the game is also available through both Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass. Compared to the original version of the game, the Anniversary Edition sports a Gallery in which players can view and replay character events, dialogue, and sprites. There’s also an Ultimate Gallery that features promotional illustrations and character sheets from the game’s original artbook.

Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc is the first game in the Danganronpa series, focusing primarily on school student Makoto Naegi and his classmates as they find themselves trapped within their school, forced to deal with an evil bear named Monokuma. The player must attempt to figure out who Monokuma really is as the bear attempts to turn the students against each other and bring about violence.

For many years, the Danganronpa series has been exclusive to the PlayStation and Steam ecosystem, making this game’s release on Xbox and the Microsoft Store very surprising and unexpected. Hopefully we see more of the Danganronpa games come to Xbox moving forward.

Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc Anniversary Edition is available for $15 on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Windows PCs (either through the Microsoft Store or through Steam).
