Error 0x87E00010 while copying or moving game or app on Xbox or PC

January 17, 2022 by Martin6

If when you try to copy or move a game or app on your Xbox console or Windows 11 or Windows 10 computer, and you receive the Error 0x87E00010, then this post is intended to help you with the most suitable solutions to easily fix the error on your gaming device. The error in view means copying or moving the game or app failed.

Error 0x87E00010 copying or moving a game or app on Xbox or PC

If when copying or moving a game or app on your Xbox Series X|S or Xbox One console or Windows 11/10 PC and the Error 0x87E00010 occurs, you can try our recommended solutions below in no particular order and see if that helps to resolve the issue on your gaming device.

  1. Check storage space
  2. Uninstall/Reinstall and move app/game
  3. Change default location of where Xbox app install games
  4. Change where new content is saved to on PC

Let’s take a look at the description of the process involved concerning each of the listed solutions.

1] Check storage space

Check storage space

It’s possible the Error 0x87E00010 is triggered when copying or moving a game or app due to insufficient storage space on the destination drive/partition location. To rule out this possibility, you can use any third-party disk analyzer for Windows 11/10 to get a granular view of what might be hogging storage space and the location on the drive. You can then run Disk Cleanup to clear unnecessary files on the hard disk and free up disk space. Once done, try moving the item again.

Alternatively, if the system drive is running out of space, you can delete some programs on C: drive, or you can create new partition or extend system partition with the blank space on the hard drive and see if copying or moving the game or app to the partition will be successful.

2] Uninstall/Reinstall and move app/game

This solution requires you to uninstall and reinstall app/game on your Windows 11/10 PC, then proceed to move or copy the item again.

To uninstall the game or app on your Xbox console, do the following:

  • Press the Xbox button to open the guide.
  • Select Home.
  • Select My games & apps.
  • Select either Apps or Games.
  • Highlight the content that you want to uninstall.
  • Press the Menu button on your controller.
  • Select Uninstall > Uninstall all.

To reinstall the game or app on your Xbox console, do the following:

  • Press the Xbox button to open the guide.
  • Select Home.
  • Select My games & apps.
  • Select either Apps or Games.
  • Go to the Ready to install tab.
  • Select the game or app to download and reinstall it.

Now, when the game or app is reinstalled, you can try to copy or move the item again. Or alternatively, after you uninstall the app or game, you can simply install the item to the location (external or internal drive as the case may be) you want to move the item to on your console.

3] Change default location of where Xbox app install games

While it is still the Microsoft Store in the background, the Xbox App is the primary app that makes it easy to find, install and manage games on your Windows 11/10 PC.

This solution requires you to simply change default location of where Xbox app install games on your device. Once done, you can now install games directly to that default preferred location instead of installing to another location and then attempt to copy or move the item to preferred location.

4] Change where new content is saved to on PC

Similar to changing default location of where Xbox app install games on your Windows 11/10 PC, this solution requires you to change where new content is saved on your device so you can be able to install the game or app directly to the preferred location on an external or internal drive as the case may be.

To change where new content is downloaded or saved to your Windows 11 PC, do the following:

  • Press Windows key + I to open Settings app.
  • Click System > Storage.
  • Scroll down and click Advanced storage settings to expand the section.
  • Now, click Where new content is saved option.
  • In the next screen, click the New apps will save to dropdown.
  • Now, select the internal drive or external drive per requirement.
  • Exit Settings app when done.

To change where new content is downloaded or saved to your Windows 10 PC, do the following:

  • Press Windows key + I to open Settings app.
  • Click System > Storage.
  • Under More Storage Settings, click on Change where new content is saved.
  • Click on the New apps will save to dropdown.
  • Select the drive where you want your newly downloaded content to be saved.
  • Exit Settings app when done.

That’s it! Any of these solutions should work for you!
