While Huawei has been cut off from Google’s Android, the US-based tech company isn’t taking the loss of one of its largest sources of income lightly.
The firm is lobbying the US government behind the scenes, arguing that if the ban was done for security reasons it is better that Huawei works with Google and makes use of Android, rather than invests in its own operating system according to a report from the Financial Times.
Google has made the argument that whatever OS Huawei develops will be less secure than Google’s Android. In addition to that, since it would be built in China, the Chinese government will be more easily able to insert malware and/or spyware into the OS (if that is a concern.)
Huawei has risen through the ranks as a flagship smartphone manufacturer in the last few years, debuting one of the best camera phones with the P30 Pro. Aside from the losses to Huawei itself, the ban will also impact Huawei’s suppliers. Like Google, they would also have counted on Huawei’s business to fill their coffers.
