Google Backup and Sync Released for Both Windows and Mac

August 5, 2020 by Martin6

Slightly behind the schedule, Google released its Backup and Sync App for both Windows and Mac today. The newly released app is Google’s approach demonstrating how backup should be done for not only photos but all types of files as well.

Backup and Sync backs up files and photos safely in Google Drive and Google Photos. All you need is to choose the folders you want to back up and Google will take care of the rest. If you are using both Google Drive and Google Photos services, you now only need one app to save and sync your files with Google.

Backup and Sync is now available for Google Photos and Google Drive across both Mac and PC. Download it from either location and get it installed on your computer. Once installed, click the app icon on the taskbar and choose Sign in to sign in with your Google Account.

Once signed in, you get to choose whether to just back up photos and videos or all file types. Pick one that suits you and click Next.

Now, let’s choose folders you want to back up. Click Choose Folder link to pick any folders on your computer if they are not listed in the app yet.

If you don’t have Google Drive installed on your computer, you can have it synced to your computer by turning on the option “Sync My Drive to this computer” from Advanced settings.

One thing worth noting is that the app doesn’t remove Google Drive and Google Photo Backup during the installation. Once everything is set and working, you need to manually remove these apps from your computer so you don’t get different apps duplicating the same work.
