Google Pixel smartphones will get a DVR function

Google periodically releases software updates for branded smartphones. Usually they are related to security or camera operation, but soon they will be able to take on the role of car DVRs. The corresponding feature was seen in a test build of the Personal Safety app.

As its name suggests, the new mode of operation will allow smartphones to record video while driving. In this case, the device will be able to simultaneously perform other functions, and to save battery power, the screen can be locked.

The journalists of the 9to5Google portal who discovered the innovation also noted that the application will also receive the function of automatically starting recording when connected to a specific device (for example, to a car stereo) via Bluetooth.

To save space, recorded videos will be automatically deleted after three days if the user does not save them. The “weight” of the videos will be approximately 30 MB per minute of recording, the maximum duration is 24 hours. It is not yet known if the new feature will be available on other smartphones besides the Pixels. A release date for the updated version of the Personal Safety app has yet to be announced.
