Halo Infinite Interference: Rewards list, challenges, and more

Halo Infinite’s first narrative event is here.

While previous Halo Infinite events have focused entirely on specific themes such as the holiday season or cyberpunk-style aesthetics, Halo Infinite Season 2’s Interference is the game’s first “narrative event.” Unlike regular events, narrative events progress the overarching story that 343 Industries is telling through Halo Infinite’s multiplayer experience with cinematics that connect the multiplayer to the narrative. Note that narrative events also feature special event playlists and a free Battle Pass with exclusive cosmetic rewards that players can earn by completing event challenges, just like other types of events do.

Since Interference began with the launch of Halo Infinite Season 2, it’s currently available for all players. Here’s a detailed overview of everything you need to know about the Interference event, including what it is and what its story is about, how the new Last Spartan Standing game mode works, a list of all the event’s rewards, and its official end date.

What is the Halo Infinite Interference event?

Interference is Halo Infinite’s first narrative event, giving fans a glimpse of the events that immediately follow (or may even precede) the Halo Infinite campaign. Through two brand new in-game cutscenes, players learn that two Spartans, Spartan Dinh, and Spartan Eklund, barely managed to escape a Banished base on the planet Camber that they were scouting. As the two Spartans hijacked a Phantom dropship, a Banished AI called Iratus managed to hook into its systems and began to shut down its engines. To stop it, Spartan Dinh allowed Iratus to infiltrate his MJOLNIR armor instead. This stopped Iratus from preventing their escape but gave him a degree of control over Dinh’s armor, which he has used to torture Dinh ever since.

Since Iratus is the first Banished AI ever encountered, and because the UNSC has confirmed that Iratus has a detailed archive of the Banished’s operations on Camber within his databanks, the UNSC wants to stop Iratus from killing Spartan Dinh and trap him so that he can be studied. To do this, Spartan Commander Agryna comes up with a plan: by using the Banished facility on Camber as a simulated training ground for Spartans, Agryna hopes to anger Iratus and draw him outside of Dinh’s armor and into the simulation. The UNSC can then “shut the door” behind him, preventing Iratus from escaping.

The player’s role in the story is to act as the bait for Iratus, viciously fighting other Spartans over and over again within the simulation of the Camber facility. This Spartan vs. Spartan free-for-all is represented by the new Last Spartan Standing game mode, while the Banished Camber facility is the new Breaker BTB map.

Last Spartan Standing is essentially a mix of the fan-favorite gun game mode and a battle royale. Matches have 12 players, with each player only getting five respawns before permanent elimination. As a hazardous barrier slowly closes in, players will need to find and kill other players. Doing so awards XP, which can then be used to level up and upgrade your loadout in the mode. Eventually, the kill barrier will force the remaining players close to each other, and once all but one of the players in the match have run out of respawns, the match will end and the surviving player will win. Note that players can leave without penalty once they’ve been eliminated permanently.

Halo Infinite Interference: All event challenges

To progress through the free Halo Infinite Interference event pass, you’ll need to complete event challenges (signified by an orange tab with a star) while playing Last Spartan Standing. We’ve compiled a list of every event challenge you can get during the Interference event below:

Note that if you don’t have any event challenges to complete among your regular weekly challenges, you’ll need to use a Challenge Swap consumable to swap out a regular weekly challenge for an event one. Thankfully this is a rare occurrence, but it has happened during Halo Infinite events in the past.

Halo Infinite Interference: Rewards list

Various rewards are available for players who complete Interference’s free event pass, including armor pieces, AI colors, coatings, and more. You can find a complete list of each Interference reward below:

How to fix Halo Infinite Interference event not working

If you’ve experienced an issue that prevents you from making progress on any of your Interference event challenges, you’re not alone. In fact, the developers have confirmed that they’re investigating widespread reports of the issue, but until a fix is developed and deployed, you can avoid this bug by not leaving Last Spartan Standing matches until they’re completely over.

While it can be boring to spectate other players once you’ve been permanently eliminated, leaving early isn’t worth it if you don’t get to keep any of the progress you made towards your event challenges in that match. Therefore, you should remain in each Last Spartan Standing game until they conclude if you want to make consistent and meaningful progress on your event pass.

When does Halo Infinite Interference end?

According to the official Halo Infinite Season 2 roadmap, Halo Infinite’s Interference event will end on May 16, 2022. This gives players that began making event pass progress at the start of Season 2 just under two weeks to unlock all 10 rewards available while Interference is active. It’s unclear whether or not players will get additional chances to unlock Interference rewards during Season 2 if they miss the event in May, but since Halo Infinite Season 2 is six months long, we wouldn’t be surprised if they did.

Halo Infinite multiplayer is available now for free on Xbox and PC, and while it hasn’t had the greatest start, it has the potential to grow into one of the best Xbox shooters ever made.
