343 Industries will be releasing a Halo The Master Chief Collection Xbox One X update alongside upgrades, fixes, and improvements to the core game.
The developer announced this during a Halo livestream overnight. You can watch the stream below:
No details on the specific Xbox One X and upgrades were provided, but 343i stated that they aim to bring Halo MCC “forward and modernize many of the game’s systems to take advantage of Xbox platform advancements since its original launch.”
A release frame for the upcoming updates wasn’t provided, but the Halo developer hopes to kick off a testing “flighting” program next spring.
“While we’re incredibly excited by this opportunity to go back under the hood with MCC, it’s not going to be easy nor is it going to happen overnight”, 343i wrote on its blog. ”To help facilitate this process we’re planning to roll out a public “flighting” program for MCC to allow for iterative patches and updates while testing in the wild at large scale. Right now, we’re targeting kicking this off next spring and when the time comes we’ll need the support of our community to help test and provide feedback at large scale as we work to update and improve MCC. We’ll share additional details and timing as plans are locked.”
Halo: The Master Chief Collection includes Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary Edition, Halo 2: Anniversary, Halo 3, and Halo 4. The compilation was released back in November of 2014, but the game suffered from long matchmaking times and low session success rates. To compensate those affected, 343 Industries give a away a special avatar and nameplate, one month of Xbox Live Gold, and a free digital version of the Halo 3: ODST campaign to those who played the game between its launch and December 19, 2014.
