How to change Windows language back to English

If you have accidentally changed your Windows PC language to another language that you are not familiar with and want t change it back to English, then this post offers instructions on how to get it done. The language of display you choose in Windows 11 or Windows 10 automatically changes the default language. So, when you change language in Windows to English, it also changes the current language used by Windows features, such as Settings and File Explorer.

How to change Windows language back to English

Normally, the initial setup process in Windows offers you a choice to set the desired language as the default language. But if you accidentally choose the wrong one or select the language that is different from the one your device is already configured with you don’t have to struggle.

Now since the language may be in one that you may not understand, we have given detailed instructions below on how to change the Language in Windows 11/10 back to English.

Right-click the Windows Start button residing on the Taskbar.

  • From the WinX Menu that opens, choose Settings. It will be the 12th entry from the top.
  • In the window that opens, select the seventh option from the top under the Side panel. This will open the Time and Language section.
  • Switch to the right pane and expand the second tab from the top.
  • Then, hit the drop-down arrow under the first tab and select the desired option.
  • Now, move to the second section. This will allow you to configure settings for the Region.

Hit the drop-down button visible under its first tab then choose the option that corresponds to the entry you added in the earlier step i.e., the option that corresponds with the Windows Display language set in the Languages setting.

When done, hit the back button in the upper-left corner. Expand the menu of the last tab (Speech) by clicking the side-arrow. This will open the ‘Speech language’ setting. Make sure it is aligned with the previous settings.

For this, hit the drop-down button under the first heading and select the same language as you chose for other settings. This will configure the required changes for the primary language you speak, manage voices for your devices and apps, and set up your microphone.

When done, right-click the Windows button, expand the second option from the bottom, and select the first option from the top to sign out.

Sign in again to see the changes applied to the settings.

The simple workaround for this problem is to remove and to re-add the display language. Go to Time & Language > Language options, click the language you want to be the Windows display language and hit the Remove button. Then re-add the language and set it as default!
