Do you think someone might stalk your followers? Or do you just not want someone to view who follows you? In either case, there’s no official option to hide your Instagram followers, but you can use a few workarounds to prevent people from seeing who follows you. Here’s how.
Make Your Instagram Account Private
One way to hide your follower list from everyone but the people who follow you is to turn your Instagram account private. When you do this, anyone who doesn’t follow you can’t see your follower list. (They can’t see your posts either.)
If someone new wants to follow your account, you’ll have to approve their follow request. This way, you can have full control over who can and cannot see your follower list.
To make your account private, you only have to toggle on an option in Instagram’s settings menu. To do that, first, launch Instagram on your phone. In the app’s bottom bar, tap your profile icon.
On your profile page, in the top-right corner, tap the hamburger menu (three horizontal lines) and choose “Settings and Privacy.”
Select “Account Privacy.”
Turn on the “Private Account” option.
And that’s it. Instagram has made your account private, and only your followers can now see your follower list and your posts. Enjoy!
Block the User in Your Instagram Account
If you want to prevent someone specific from viewing your Instagram follower list while keeping your profile public, block that user in your account. Doing so basically makes you non-existent for that user on the Instagram platform. The blocked user can’t access your profile nor can they view your posts, videos, Reels, Stories, follower list, and following list.
The caveat here, though, is that it’s technically possible for the user to find out that you’ve blocked them. While Instagram sends no alerts when you block someone, the blocked user can use various workarounds, like trying to access your profile from another account, to figure out they’ve been blocked. It’s also worth noting that this method is not global (you have to apply it on a user-by-user basis) and time intensive if you want to apply it to many accounts at once.
If you’d like to proceed with this option, launch Instagram on your phone first. In the app, access the profile of the user who you want to block.
On the profile page, in the top-right corner, tap the three dots.
In the open menu, select “Block.”
Choose “Block” in the prompt.
Instagram has blocked your specified user, and they can’t access your follower list (they can’t view your profile).
Later, if you decide you want that user to see your follower list and your profile, unblock that user in your Instagram account.
Remove the Follower From Your Instagram Profile
The third way to hide someone on your follower list is to simply remove the follower. This solution won’t be ideal for you if you want to continue allowing the person to follow you, but it is a quick and easy way to guarantee the person is no longer visible on your follower list.
To use this method, open Instagram on your phone and access your profile page. View your follower list by tapping “Followers.”
On the follower list, find the user you want to remove. Then, next to their name, tap the “Remove” button.
In the open prompt, choose “Remove.”
That’s it! Instagram has removed the chosen user from your follower list. The follower won’t be notified that you’ve removed them.
