Make Firefox display Media Controls on the Lock Screen
Firefox browser already gives users many options for playing media, including background playback, picture-in-picture support, and auto-play settings. Showing Media Controls over Lock Screen in Windows 10 adds as another capability. To enable it, follow the instructions given below.
- Launch the Mozilla Firefox browser.
- Type about: config in the address bar and hit the Enter key.
- Type media keys in Search filter box
- Search for the following preference – media.hardwaremediakeys.enabled.
- Double-click on media.hardwaremediakeys.enabled preference and set it to true.
Although many Firefox browser users are not aware of this feature, it’s a useful addition that lets you directly control the playing media (audio or video) right from Windows 10 Lock Screen.
Launch the Firefox browser and open a new tab.
Type about: config in the address bar and hit the Enter key. If prompted by a warning, ignore it, and proceed further.
Next, in the new browser window that appears, type Media keys in the Search box to allow the list to populate.
Look for the following entry in the list – media.hardwaremediakeys.enabled.
By default, the preference is set to False value meaning, the media controls feature is disabled in Firefox. To override this change, you’ll need to set the value for the above entry to True.
So, double-click the media.hardwaremediakeys.enabled entry to change its value from False to True.
Alternatively, you can simply Toggle the switch, adjacent to the preference name.
Once done, close the window and exit. Restart the browser to allow the changes to take effect.
