How To Use YouTube Mobile App’s Voice Search With Your Smart TV

Google has released a new YouTube app update to the App Store, giving iPhone and iPad users a way to interact with video streamed to a TV just by using their voice.

In order for this to work you’ll need to have a smart TV with the YouTube app installed and the latest version of the YouTube app installed on your iPhone or iPad. Assuming that’s all lined up, using the new feature is pretty simple.

Step 1: With the YouTube app open, tap the “Cast” button at the top of the Home tab.

Step 2: Depending on your TV, you might need to open the YouTube app there, too.

Step 3: Select your TV from the list that appears.

Step 4: You’ll now see a new overlay with a number of options including a new “Voice Search” button. Tap it.

Step 5: Now tap the red microphone and speak the word or phrase that you want to search for following the prompt.

Step 6: After that, the search text will be transmitted to the TV and the search will be carried out.

Step 7: If you’d rather just use the new “Remote” option, that will let you navigate menus and select options, too.

The new YouTube app update is available for download from the App Store now, so make sure you have that installed and take this for a spin.
