iPhone 12 owners complain of missing texts

The new iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro are making headlines, but not all of them are good. Only last week we reported user complaints about poor workmanship, and now further problems with the latest iPhone generation are being discussed in various forums.

SMS messages not being delivered

Anyone who has ever sent an SMS message in Apple’s own Messages app for iPhone will surely have seen the error message “Not delivered” with a red exclamation mark.

The reason for this is usually poor reception or, in the case of larger data transfers, the maximum file size being exceeded. The problem can easily be solved by sending the message a short time later as soon as you’ve left the dead zone or by sending the files, such as photos, individually.

But iPhone 12 users are currently struggling with a similar problem that unfortunately is not that easy to solve. In Apple’s user forum, iPhone users report that SMS messages in both individual and group chats are being delivered with a delay or sometimes not being delivered at all. As a recipient of the messages, you don’t have many options with this problem, and the senders apparently see the messages as “delivered”.

The iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro appear to be particularly affected by the problem, reports the (German-language) MacTechNews blog, but there are also some older devices such as the iPhone 8.

“Apple support is currently assigning blame to the cell phone providers,” says the blog. However, since the problem is being reported by customers of multiple providers, the problem must lie elsewhere.

If you’re affected too, the old trick of “turning it off and on again” could fix the problem for a short time. This has helped some users. We have a guide to How to retrieve deleted text messages on iPhone that may also help.
