All of the Windows 10 S devices you can buy right now

Windows 10 in S mode is what Microsoft wants the future of Windows to be. It’s a mode of Windows that stays fast, secure, and is locked to the Microsoft Store for all your apps and games. Announced last year, only a handful of Windows 10 S devices have made their way to the market, with more scheduled for release this year. Most of the Windows 10 S laptops on the market today are either low cost x86 devices, or premium Windows 10 on ARM-based devices.

Still, here’s a list of devices we’ve found that are available to buy today with Windows 10 S. We’ll update this article whenever we find more, so bookmark it and come back later to see more!

Microsoft Surface Laptop

The Microsoft Surface Laptop is the rightful king of the Windows 10 S market. Being the first device to launch with Windows 10 S, the Surface Laptop is a device designed to show the world what a Windows 10 S laptop is supposed to look like. It’s a premium, straight-up laptop that has no special 2-in-1 capabilities. It’s the MacBook of the Windows 10 S world, and it’s great.

The base is covered in Microsoft’s favorite Alcantara fabric, which gives the keyboard a unique look and feel compared to most other laptops that feature a metal design. Available in four colors, and starting at $734 shipping with an Intel Core M3, Intel Core i5, or Intel Core i7 processor, you can’t go wrong with the Surface Laptop.

Microsoft Surface Go

Microsoft is now selling its first tablet with Windows 10 S enabled too. The $399 Surface Go features a 10-inch 1800 x 1200 display with 4GB or 8GB RAM and 64GB eMMC or 128GB SSD storage. It also features an Intel Pentium 4415Y GOLD CPU, a touchscreen, and even pen support. Everything you’d expect from a Surface.

What’s more, the Surface Go also features an incredibly premium design with its magnesium chassis and built-in kickstand. This is easily the best bang-for-your-buck Windows 10 S device on the market right now, so make sure you check it out.

HP Envy x2

The HP Envy x2 was the first Windows 10 on ARM device to hit store shelves. Rocking a Snapdragon 835, 4GB or 8GB RAM, LTE capabilities, and a beautiful 12-inch 1080p display, the HP Envy x2 is a premium 2-in-1 with pen support that comes with Windows 10 in S mode enabled. Windows 10 on ARM and Windows 10 S work great together, as most of the apps that are natively compiled for Windows 10 on ARM are already in the Microsoft Store anyway!

This isn’t a cheap device however, with the 4GB configuration coming in at $859. You’re definitely paying for the premium design rather than high performing specifications. While the Snapdragon 835 is good enough for general use and Office related tasks, it’ll start to slow down if you plan on doing any heavy lifting such as video editing and multitasking with lots of big apps.

HP Stream Pro 11 G4

The HP Stream 11 G4 is a budget Windows 10 S laptop that costs $275 and features an Intel Pentium N3450 quad-core CPU, 4GB DDR3L SDRAM, 64GB of internal storage, and am 11-inch 1366 x 768 resolution screen. This laptop is designed primarily for education markets, but looks just like any other HP Stream device on the market.

HP also has an x360 model of the same laptop available, so if you prefer that 360-degree hinge action instead of the traditional laptop form factor, check out that option for $319 instead.

ASUS NovaGo

ASUS was one of the first to get a Windows 10 on ARM device out onto the market. Unlike the HP Envy x2, the $640 ASUS NovaGo is a convertible laptop rather than a 2-in-1, meaning it looks and feels just like a normal laptop except it has a 360 degree hinge that allows it to quickly be turned into a tablet. Featuring a Snapdragon 835, 13.3-inch 1080p display, 8GB RAM and LTE capabilities, this laptop is great for general use using Microsoft’s ARM version of Windows 10.

It’s also another device that comes with Windows 10 in S mode enabled by default, which means you can switch to Windows 10 Pro whenever you feel like it, for free. It’s not a limited time offer, and it’s something you can just go to whenever you feel like it. In an upcoming update, Microsoft is going to let you switch back to S Mode too, which is awesome.

ASUS VivoBook Flip 14

The Asus VivoBook Flip 14 is a relatively low-end 14-inch laptop that’s also a 2-in-1. Featuring an Intel Quad-Core Celeron N3450 Processor, 64GB eMMC storage, 4GB RAM, and a 1080p display, the VivoBook is a great offering for casual users who just want to use their PC for Office, email, and web browsing. The device costs $349, much cheaper than the Surface Laptop, but still a little expensive compared to other Windows 10 S devices.

With the Vivobook 14, you’re paying for the screen and design. Most sub $400 laptops have terrible screens or terrible designs, but the VivoBook features a great full HD screen and a really nice look and feel to the design. It’s thin, light, and is carrying lots of ports for all your peripherals. Plus, since it’s a 2-in-1, it features a 360-degree hinge and a touchscreen with pen support!

ASUS L402WA-EH21

The ASUS L402WA-EH21 (excuse the terrible name) is a low-end, low-budget Windows 10 S laptop that offers no real thrills outside of its price. For just $230, you’re getting yourself a 14-inch laptop with an AMD E2-6110 1.5GHz Processor with integrated Radeon R2 graphics, 32GB eMMC Flash Storage, 4GB DDR3 RAM, and 1366×768 resolution display.

The AMD processor in this laptop is a little more punchy, but by no means is it a powerhouse. Like most Windows 10 S laptops, the ASUS L402WA-EH21 is a laptop designed for casual users who might want to use Office, check email, and browse the web on occasion. It’s a relatively nice looking laptop, but offers no touch screen, and a low-resolution display. Also, this laptop also comes in an 11-inch variant, if you prefer something even more portable.

ASUS VivoBook W202NA-YS03 Rugged

The ASUS VivoBook W202NA-YS03 is the rugged version of the 11-inch laptop mentioned above. This model is designed specifically for the K-12 market, and is preloaded with Windows 10 S. For $250, it features a bulky but strong build, and is packing a Intel Dual-Core Celeron N3350 processor, 4GB RAM, 64GB eMMC flash storage, an 11.6 inch matte finish HD screen, HDMI, USB, HD webcam, and up to 11 hour battery life.

What’s great about this laptop is that it’s rugged, meaning it’s designed to survive a bit of tough love here and there. It has a spill-resistant keyboard, a body that can survive drops from up to 4-feet thanks to its rubber-wrapped edges, and has been built from the ground up to survive the classroom environment. If you’re a student looking for a laptop for school, you can’t go wrong with this.

Acer TravelMate Spin B1 2-in-1

Acer is also getting in on the Windows 10 S action with a 2-in-1 TravelMate PC. It’s another device aimed at the classroom, but for $329 you’re getting a pen included in the box! Featuring an 11.6-inch Full HD touchscreen, an Intel Celeron N3455 CPU, and 4GB RAM with 64GB eMMC storage.

This device is one of our more well-equipped options too, including a wide array of ports such as a full HDMI out port, an ethernet jack, a full-size SD card reader and more. Plus, that full HD display is not something you often find at this price point. It’s not the prettiest device, but it definitely packs more than most $300 devices.

Acer Aspire One

The Acer Aspire One is another low-cost, low-budget Windows 10 S laptop. Featuring a Intel Celeron N3450 Quad-Core Processor, 4GB RAM, 32GB storage, and a 14-inch 1080p display. The Aspire One is yet another device for casual users who might only want to browse the web, check their email or do Office-related work. It also has a wide-array of ports, in case you need to connect a peripheral.

The Aspire One has a good design, nothing special, but good enough for $180. The best thing about this laptop is easily its screen, packing a full HD 1080p panel. You don’t often come across 1080p laptops for under $300, so it’s great to see that here. Otherwise, the Aspire One is a no thrills laptop that’s good for light work.

Lenovo Miix 630

The Lenovo Miix 630 is a 2-in-1 tablet that features a kickstand, keyboard cover, pen, and a 12-inch Full HD display. It’s rocking a Snapdragon 835 with 4GB RAM and 128GB Storage, LTE capabilities, and 20 hours of battery, which makes it great for taking on the go. It does cost $849 however, which is pretty steep for a device that isn’t as premium-built as the HP Envy x2.

It does come with Windows 10 S mode enabled, which is great. It’s 1.7 pounds, and an Adreno A540 for light mobile gaming.

Lenovo 300e 2-in-1 PC

The Lenovo 300e 2-in-1 PC is a budget Windows 10 S machine that’s both a tablet and laptop. For $279, you’re getting an 11.6-inch HD touchscreen, an Intel Celeron N3455 CPU, 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage, and of course Windows 10 in S mode. Unsurprisingly, this machine is yet another one aimed mostly at the education market.

What’s nice about the 300e is that it also supports pen, and even has a small holder on the side for you to store it. It’s a rugged machine, meaning it’s not the best looking laptop out there, but it will survive a bump and a tumble in the classroom.

Lenovo Ideapad 120S

Just like the Acer Aspire One, the Lenovo Ideapad 120S is a low-end laptop designed for the casual user. Rocking an 11.6-inch HD display, Intel Celeron N3350, 32GB eMMC storage but only 2GB RAM, the Lenovo Ideapad 120S is the lowest-end offering on our list. The 2GB RAM might be a bit of an issue if you’re someone who has multiple apps or tabs open at one time.

Still, the Ideapad 120S features a nice, streamlined and minimal design that looks great from any angle. But with a low-resolution display, no touch screen, and only 2GB RAM for $160, you might want to give this one a miss.

Dell Latitude 3189 Education 2-in-1 PC

Dell also now sells a Windows 10 S device aimed at the classroom with its Latitude 3189 2-in-1. For $489, you’re getting an 11.6-inch HD touchscreen display, an Intel Celeron N3350 CPU, with 4GB RAM and 64GB eMMC storage. It’s a 2-in-1, meaning it can flip into a tablet mode when needed.

Dell is advertising long battery life with the Latitude 3189, noting 10+ hours of battery life which is not bad. It’s pretty sleek looking for a device aimed at the classroom too, which is always a nice bonus.
