LG V30 vs LG V20 Rumours: What's the difference?

LG V30 vs LG V20 (rumours): The LG G6 was a flagship hit with its fancy HDR FullVision 18:9 display, but it is soon to have a follow-up in the LG V30.

Following the LG V20 (a spec powerhouse when it was released), the V30 is expected to impress with yet more seriously high-end power. So how will it compare to the previous model and can it knock all the other flagship phones off your wishlist? Here’s everything you need to know.

LG V30 to have better OLED display than LG V20

The LG V30 is expected to surpass the V20 with regards to its screen skills, which is a big move when you consider the quality of the older model. The V20 comes with a 5.7-inch LCD display that boasts an impressive Quad HD 1440×2560 resolution resulting in a stonking 513ppi. How can LG top that?

With the FullVision display, we hear you say. Unfortunately, it looks like that’s reserved for the G6 and Q6 range, however, rumours suggest that the LG V30 will potentially come with an even nicer OLED display. That could mean you still get HDR goodness but with even punchier colours and deeper blacks for super contrast.

That display could also get a resolution boost to Quad HD+, like the G6, meaning a 1440×2880 resolution, or the equivalent with a normal screen ratio. As such, expect a similar 5.7-inch size to that found on the V20 to appear in the V30. This should also mean that same secondary display at the top for showing notifications without powering up the entire screen.

The screen on the V30 may also take up more of the phone’s frontage than the V20 for a bezel-free front, according to a patent spot.

LG V30 camera to be better than LG V20

The LG V20 took the camera of the G5 and so too may the V30 take the dual rear cameras of the G6. That should mean an upgrade from the V20’s dual 16-megapixel and 8-megapixel rear camera setup to a dual 13-megapixel camera on the V30. As a result, expect a larger camera sensor for better low light performance and blur-free photography too.

On the front should be a 5-megapixel selfie snapper at the very least. That would put the V30 alongside both the V20 and G6. So here’s hoping this may also get an upgrade.

LG V30 to get better hardware than V20

While the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 CPU of the V20 paired with 4GB of RAM and 32GB or 64GB of storage all added to up a very comprehensive device for speed, the V30 should top it to stay relevant in 2017.

The phone is rumoured to feature the latest Snapdragon 835 SoC with at least 4GB of RAM and 32GB or 64GB storage options once again plus microSD expansion, since both the G6 and V20 offer that slot.

The battery should be the same 3,200mAh unit found in the V20 or the 3,300mAh battery in the G6, although this time it’ll likely be non-removable due to the phone’s build.

LG V30 to feature more premium design than the V20

The V30 should offer a similar lightweight aluminium build as the V20, but with far slimmer bezels and a non-removable battery as we just mentioned.

Also, expect the same STD 810G drop protection rating and hopefully some IP68-certified dust and waterproofing too. Leakster renders have shown a rear fingerprint sensor in one instance and a slide-out second screen in another – so what we’ll actually get still remains up in the air.

The LG V30 is also rumoured to feature a USB-C connector and 3.5mm headphone jack with a thin build at just 7.4mm.

LG V30 could feature Google Daydream

Since the leaked expectation for the V30 is to run Google Daydream this would support the OLED display theory – something that all Daydream phones have at the time of publishing.

Will there be a new headset for VR that comes with the V30? We’ll have to wait and see. LG is expected to unveil the V30 at an event on 31 August.
