LG X Power 2 in a nutshell: Specs, features and UK release info

LG X Power 2 in a nutshell: LG has launched its latest affordable smartphone, the X Power 2, which is aimed at media fans with its spacious screen and seriously long battery life. Here’s all you need to know, including the LG X Power 2 specs, best features and what we know about the UK price and release date.

At MWC 2017 we’re expecting LG to finally launch its much-leaked LG G6 flagship phone, a handset with plenty of swagger thanks to its premium design and seriously impressive specs.

However, LG hasn’t forgotten the everyday consumer. The Korean mobile brand has already revealed its latest range of K-series smartphones, fresh for 2017, and now you can add the LG X Power 2 to that line-up.

The LG X Power 2 is designed with movie and TV lovers in mind. A spacious 5.5-inch HD screen should provide a solid viewing experience when you’re on the go. While the rather huge battery will hopefully give you a full day of streaming per charge, something few other phones offer.

LG X Power 2 best features

The LG X Power 2 packs some pretty budget design, with a plastic shell finish that’s 8.4mm thick and 164g in weight. However, you do get a lovely choice of colours, albeit with not particularly imaginative names: ‘Black Titan’ is joined by ‘Shiny Titan’, ‘Shiny Gold’ and ‘Shiny Blue’. Shiny.

The most impressive X Power 2 feature is its rather massive battery. That 4500mAh cell is roughly twice the size of most other smartphone batteries in this price range, and LG reckons you’ll get a seriously impressive 16 hours of video streaming from a single charge. Awesome news if you’re off on a long-haul flight.

That’s beaten in recent times only by the excellent Lenovo P2 phone, which crams a 5100mAh battery into its surprisingly slender frame. That handset gave three full days of everyday use per charge and we’re expecting a similar result from the X Power 2.

Of course, every portable media machine needs a solid display to pump out those movies and shows. The X Power 2 hopefully won’t disappoint with its spacious 5.5-inch screen, although LG states that it has an ‘HD’ resolution, which means 1280×720 pixels. We’d have much preferred a Full HD 1920×1080 resolution, something other affordable phones like the Moto G4 Plus, Wileyfox Swift 2 X and Lenovo P2 all manage.

Still, images should hopefully be pretty crisp, with accurate colour reproduction – this is LG after all.

The LG X Power 2 also packs Android Nougat, complete with LG’s usual array of bonus features. And we’re hoping that the 13-megapixel rear camera is a solid everyday snapper, apparently boasting zero shutter lag.

Selfie fans will rejoice at the front-facing X Power 2 camera, which is loaded with cool features. There’s a wide-angle lens to fit in plenty of BFFs, plus a flash for those low light situations. LG’s camera app can automatically take a shot when your mug is detected, or alternatively Gesture Shot can take a snap when you flash a hand signal (generally a fist pump).

LG X Power 2 UK price and release date

The LG X Power 2 will launch first in Latin America in March 2017, followed by parts of Asia, the US and Europe. However, LG has confirmed to us that a UK release is not certain. We’re hoping to bring you an update on this out at MWC 2017.

As for pricing, we’d expect the X Power 2 to rock a price tag of around £199 like the Lenovo P2.
