Dark mode or dark theme is very useful in low light conditions. Many of the popular applications and web services offer dark mode feature these days.

In fact, Windows 10, Office 365/Microsoft Office, Mail app in Windows 10, and Microsoft Edge offer the dark mode feature. In Windows 10, you can enable the dark mode for File Explorer as well.

After adding dark mode to Windows 10 and Edge, Microsoft has now added dark mode to its Outlook.com webmail service. The new feature likely to help millions of Outlook.com users to check and replay to emails without having to strain their eyes, even during low light conditions.

As you can see in pictures, the dark mode looks pretty good. As with other services that offer dark mode, black color is used for the Outlook.com background and texts use the white color.

Turn on the dark mode in Outlook.com

Step 1: Head over to Outlook.com and sign-in to your account, if not done already.

Step 2: If you are still using the old Outlook.com, toggle the Outlook Beta button to enable the new Outlook.com interface and other features. Since the dark mode is part of the new Outlook.com, it’s not available while using the old Outlook.com interface.

Step 3: Click the Settings icon (gear icon) and then slide to Dark mode switch to the on position to enable the dark mode theme.

It’s worth adding that most of the themes available in Outlook.com don’t support the dark mode for obvious reasons. For instance, the Balloons theme doesn’t support the dark mode.
