MediaTek Announces Dimensity 1000+ SoC – iQOO Jumps In First!

Qualcomm’s biggest competitor, MediaTek, has announced an upgrade to the Dimensity 1000 series SoC via an online event today. For the unversed, MediaTek had announced the Dimensity 1000 processor back in November last year making it the chipmaker’s first flagship in roughly two years.

Dubbed as the Dimensity 1000+, MediaTek seems to be following the Qualcomm route by launching a slightly enhanced chipset just like the Snapdragon 855 followed by the 855+.

The new 5G chip brings with it a bunch of new improvements over the vanilla Dimensity 1000. The centre of attraction being the support for 144Hz refresh rate, which is 2.4 times faster than the typical 60Hz found in most smartphones. For comparison, the old chip only supports 90Hz at QHD+ or 120Hz at FHD+ resolution.

The Taiwanese company is also touting new features like HyperEngine 2.0, MiraVision Picture Quality Engine support, and UltraSave Technologies. The HyperEngine 2.0 technology aims at improving gaming performance with minimal power consumption. The Dimensity 1000+ allows intelligent switching between 5G and 4G networks to attain the best balance between bandwidth and power consumption. The chip comes equipped with MediaTek’s MiraVision Picture Quality Engine, which claims to provide real-time frame adjustments to the dynamic range and details of 4K videos. The Engine is also capable of upgrading SDR content into HDR. The new chip has UltraSave technology for more power-efficient 5G connectivity.

Since the new chip is just a refresh, it is safe to assume that the Dimensity 1000+ features the same CPU (4x Cortex-A77 and 4x Cortex-A55) and GPU (Mali-G77 MP9) configurations as the vanilla Density 1000. The first phone to integrate the new chipset will be from iQOO and is expected to launch later this month (fingers crossed!)
