Microsoft Reveals Next Generation Xbox is the Xbox Series X

Microsoft revealed it’s next-gen console called the Xbox Series X. And it looks like a desktop PC!

Microsoft has revealed its next-generation version of its Xbox console. It will be called “Xbox Series X” and its design in interesting. In fact, the form factor looks more like a desktop PC than its previous consoles. The new console will be ready for the 2020 holiday season.

Microsoft Announces Xbox Series X

Microsoft’s Xbox chief, Phil Spencer, notes that the new Xbox Series X will “deliver four times the processing power of Xbox One X in the quietest and most efficient way, something that is critically important in delivering truly immersive gameplay.” However, the company did not reveal the exact hardware specs that are under the hood.

But we do know that it will include a custom CPU based on AMD’s Zen 2 and next-gen RDNA architecture. It will also include an SSD that promises to “virtually eliminate load times.” The Xbox Series X will also include support 8K gaming with refresh rates of up to 120 fps in games.

In addition to the console, the company also revealed a new Xbox Wireless controller that will include a new Share button to capture screenshots and game clips. The new controller will also work with existing consoles like the Xbox One X or Xbox One S and Windows 10 PCs. The controller will be included in the box with every Xbox Series X console.

And, of course, it will be backward compatible. “Thanks to backward compatibility, you can expect your gaming legacy, thousands of your favorite games across four generations of gaming, all your Xbox One gaming accessories, and industry-leading services like Xbox Game Pass to be available when you power on your Xbox Series X,” Spencer explains.

While the form factor is desktop-like, Spencer notes that the new XBOX SERIES X can be placed in horizontal and vertical positions. We will have to see how this huge change is received by XBOX fans. Personally, I think it looks pretty cool.

It looks like Microsoft is focusing on gaming this time and not making it a full entertainment center like it did when the Xbox One was initially launched in 2015.
