Here’s an update on the chitter-chatter revolving around AMD’s highly anticipated Radeon RX Vega launch at SIGGRAPH 2017. According to various sources a base trio of enthusiast graphics cards will be launched and they are codenamed the Vega XTX, Vega XT and the Vega XL. This information was dug up by 3D Centre, via an industry source, and later ‘confirmed’ by VideoCardz. There are also some rumoured outline specs to go with these codenames.
Diving straight into the rumour pool, please consider the SKU feature table from 3D Centre, as embedded above. You can see that there are two top models, based upon the same core hardware but cooled by a liquid AiO and air-only respectively. These 4096 stream processor packing cards both come with 8GB of HBM2 memory but of course the AiO cooled version will offer greater OC headroom, and probably faster default clocks too.
The entry level version among the three SKUs will offer fewer stream processors, a total of 3584 according to the rumours, and will also be air cooled. This ‘Radeon RX Vega XL’ could pack less memory, reckons the source, and will help provide a range of models and prices for AMD. Add-in-board partners could make the range even more diverse, with their custom coolers and memory config options.
Further industry sourced info suggests AMD Vega GPUs will be output at approximately 15,000 – 20,000 units per month, broadly in line with the supply rate of Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080Ti GPUs.
Official news and specs concerning the Radeon RX Vega cards is unlikely to be shared until 30th July or thereafter, when the SIGGRAPH 2017 event kicks off.
