Most Effective Methods to Keep Your Mac Healthy

Macs are well-known for their sleek design, their speed, effectiveness, and their ability to help you improve your productivity. And when you decide you want to invest your money on a Mac computer, you know that it will run for years and years.

But of course, no Mac that has been used for a few years will run just as great as a new one would. When you take your new purchase out of the box and start using it is always in the best condition it will ever be. After a few years, a Mac still functions very well, and there is no doubt no other computer could perform so well after a few years, but unfortunately, Macs become slower.

Mac is a computer, and it is not immune to viruses, malware, cluttered hard-drive, and other factors that can slow down a computer. Therefore we want to share a few effective methods that will help you learn to care for your Mac to keep it healthy and safe.

Method #1: Track the Battery Health

Tracking your battery health is very important for any Mac computer. What some people do not know is that each computer battery has a limit of charging cycles. For example, most MacBook Pro computers have 1000 cycles. After these cycles are over, the battery will start to drain faster than it used to. Until it comes to a point where you can not use your computer without a charger.

That is why the mac battery should be treated with care. Make sure you do not charge it every time you get a chance to. Because it does not matter if you charge your Mac from 1% to 100% or from 50% to 100%, it still counts as one battery cycle. So charge your computer the proper way. And if you are not using the computer at the moment, never leave it charging.

Method #2: Cut Down the Apps That Run in the Background

Usually, there are at least a few apps and utilities running in your Mac’s background at all times. If it is not apps, then it is always Bluetooth, printers, cloud-based services, file sharing networks, and other stuff that slows down the efficiency of your computer. The more of these utilities you will have running on your background constantly, the slower your Mac will become.

 

If you want to know which apps are running in the background while you use your computer, you can do it by simply having a look at the Dock located at the bottom of your screen. If you see an icon of an app and a dot under it, it means the app is currently running in the background, even if you clicked the X icon to close it.

And if you would like to check the list of utilities you have running in your background, then you need to look at the top right corner of your screen. Look at the icons next to the WiFi icon – these are the utilities that you currently have turned on in the background.

Method #3: Backup Your Data

Even though Macs are pretty safe and trustworthy computers, they are not immune to everything. A lot of things that could happen to regular computers can also happen to Macs. For example, your computer could crash down and never turn on again; it could be spilled with liquid, and so on. This is why it is very important to backup your data regularly.

 

The best practice is to form a healthy habit and backup your data at least twice a month. Especially if you keep a lot of files on your Mac, like all kinds of photos and videos with memories that are very sentimental and important for you. Or it could be your whole life’s work, if, for example, you are a writer or a graphic designer.

One of the ways to safely backup your data occasionally is by using the Time Machine. And this specific method is probably the one that is the easiest and fastest to perform. What it does is it creates a clone of your hard-drive that can be booted later if something were to happen to your Mac. Also, you can use an external hard-drive or start using a cloud-based service, which will create easy access to your files from any device.
