Moto E4 Plus launches: Specs, UK price and release date

Lenovo’s new Moto E4 Plus mobile, an affordable 5.5-inch handset that offers basic specs and a massive battery for a low asking price, has officially launched. Here’s the essential E4 Plus info, including how it compares to the smaller Moto E4.

The Moto E4 Plus launched at the same time as the smaller 5-inch Moto E4, and proves the better of the two when it comes to specs and features. That said, both will come packing a decent user experience for an affordable price.

Here’s everything you need to know about the Moto E4 Plus.

Lenovo Moto E4 Plus screen and design

The Moto E4 Plus features a metal rear backing like the smaller E4, which gives the handset a more premium feel than its predecessors in the Moto E series.

The Moto E4 Plus again features a fingerprint sensor on the front, which is a great feature considering the low asking price. You’ll also get full 4G connectivity, NFC built-in and a final weight of 198g – so this certainly isn’t a light device.

Inside that metal body sits a 5.5-inch IPS LCD display, with a basic 720 x 1280 HD resolution. This is the same resolution as the smaller Moto E4 with its dinkier 5-inch screen, unfortunately – so visuals won’t be quite as crisp. That’s a real shame because the similarly-priced Moto G5 offers a Full HD display.

However, for basic everyday use including web browsing, messaging and the rest, the E4 Plus’ panel should prove perfectly adequate.

Lenovo Moto E4 Plus OS and features

On the software front you’ll get the latest Android 7.1.1 Nougat OS in stock format. This should mean that the Moto E4 Plus is one of the first handsets in line for an update when a newer version of Android releases.

The rather paltry 16GB of storage can be expanded via the phone’s microSD slot, if you want to carry around lots of media or shoot loads of photos and video using the E4 Plus’ camera.

Lenovo Moto E4 Plus performance and battery life

Like the dinkier E4, the Plus model comes packing a 1.3GHz quad-core MediaTek MT6737M processor, this time backed by a choice of 2GB or 3GB of RAM. This again will provide quite basic performance, but that vanilla Android OS should help to provide a smooth everyday experience, despite the quite basic specs.

Lenovo apparently managed to cram in a hefty 5000mAh battery in the Moto E4 Plus too. That’s a huge unit comparable to the Lenovo P2. Combine that will the fact the battery is removable and you could be looking at three days of use between charges and close to a week if you pop it out and replace with a second.

Lenovo Moto E4 Plus cameras

The Moto E4 Plus should be more than capable when it comes to camera tech, with a 13-megapixel rear camera. The f/2.0 aperture should offer improved low light performance as well as increased detail levels compared with the smaller Moto E4. However, you can only shoot up to 720p HD video.

A 5-megapixel front camera is also packed onto the new Moto E Series phone, this time with an f/2.2 aperture lens.

Lenovo Moto E4 Plus UK price and release date

The Lenovo Moto E4 Plus packs a rather low price for the specs, at €190 (£159 in the UK).

Of course, that does stray into Moto G4 and Moto G5 territory, which makes things confusing for consumers. Check out our Moto E4 vs E4 Plus vs G5 vs G5 Plus comparison review to see how these Moto phones stack up.

You can buy the Moto E4 Plus when it’s released in the next month or so here in the UK.
