Google’s latest flagships, the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL have been plagued by some software issues lately. Right from blue tint on the display that has been clarified as an “inherent” part of the screen by Google to audio issues faced by some users, the new devices are not doing well concerning customer feedback. Google has acknowledged the reports and is now trying to make up for the troubles faced by the users, it has already extended the warranty on both phones to two years, and now it has overhauled the preferred care protection program.

The $129 “Preferred Care” plan includes two years of accidental damage coverage, priority access to support, and much more. Google has sent out emails to the Preferred Care members, notifying them about the added goodness to the program i.e. elimination of deductibles (as long as the claim isn’t for accidental damage).

When Google announced the extension of warranty for Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL buyers, the preferred care users were miffed as they bought the $129 plan for no extra bonus. And they were also supposed to pay a $79 deductible to process a claim.

Here’s the complete email:

Dear Preferred Care member,

Good news: To offer even more peace of mind to our customers, we’ve extended our Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL manufacturer’s warranty from 1 year to 2 years.

Since you’re one of our valued Preferred Care members, we wanted to let you know how this will affect our program. As of today, if you experience hardware failures due to normal wear and tear during your coverage period, you will not have to pay a deductible for repair or replacement.

And of course, you’ll continue to enjoy all your Preferred Care benefits, including exclusive access to our expert sessions, priority service, and two-year accidental damage coverage for up to two claims.

These changes are effective immediately, and there’s nothing that you’ll need to do. As always, you can receive a full refund on your purchase of Preferred Care for up to 30 days after your device was shipped. If you’ve made any claims, the refund will be minus any claims paid before your cancellation.

Thanks, The Google Store Team

To simplify what Google has stated in the email, the extension of the Pixel’s manufacturer warranty is eliminating deductibles on standard repairs during the second year. It means that now customers do not have to pay for hardware repairs in the second year too. Earlier, Pixel phones had a one-year warranty, but now with the extension of that period, all the repairs will be handled by Google. This makes the Preferred Care plan less attractive, but for the users who prefer special and urgent assistance for their devices, it is still beneficial.
