How to easily make slow motion videos with the Windows 10 Photos app

Ever since we saw the matrix, we as a society decided that slow-motion videos as a whole are something we need to be able to do at the drop of a hat. This trend has carried over to our mobile device platforms, Microsoft includes support for slow-motion video in the Windows 10 Camera app, so phones with capable cameras like the Lumia 950/950 XL can already capture slow motion videos out of the box. Other manufacturers and software makers like Apple and Google also have camera apps which are capable of slow-motion video capture.
But what if you need to convert that video you captured of your good friend Billy skateboarding because you think it would look really, really good as a slow-mo video for Instagram. Or you just managed to capture a video of a butterfly unfurling its wings in the rain, and a slow-motion video of that to share to social media is just what you need to upgrade your personal #brand. Microsoft’s built-in Photos app for Windows lets you convert videos to slow-motion after the fact. It’s not as elegant as a full-featured dedicated video editing app, but it’ll do for quick and dirty edits.

Here’s how to make your videos slow-motion on Windows 10

  1. First, import the video you want into the Microsoft Photos app. If its been captured by an iPhone or Android and backed up with OneDrive, it should show up in the Microsoft Photos app automatically.
  2. Tap or click the edit button and then select “create Slow-Motion vicdeo”
  3. Use the slider to then control how slow you want it to go. Microsoft has provisions for “Slow” and “Super-Slow”.
  4. Save your newly created video.
