LG G6 vs the world: LG G6 compared to the best Android phones in 2017

LG G6 vs the best Android phones you can buy in 2017: We compare the seriously smart new LG G6 smartphone with some of the best rival mobiles out there, including the Sony Xperia XZ, Pixel XL, Galaxy S7 Edge, OnePlus 3T and more.

Over in sunny Barcelona, a massive mobile expo called Mobile World Congress is wrapping up. We’ve seen loads of impressive new handsets launched at MWC 2017, as you’ll see from our round-up of the best phones launched at MWC. However, one of the most enticing new handsets is the LG G6, LG’s latest flagship smartphone boasting Dolby Vision support, for unrivalled movie playback on a mobile device.

From its front-filling 5.7-inch QHD+ screen to its slick dual-lens rear camera, the G6 is a serious rival to any Android phone out there in 2017. Which is why we compared it to some of our favourite Android mobiles out at MWC.

Here’s our pick of the best hands-on LG G6 vs other Android phone comparisons.

LG G6 vs Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge

Samsung’s Galaxy S7 Edge is still one of the best big-screen smartphones you can buy in 2017, thanks to that gorgeous bezel-free and curvaceous design, Quad HD curved screen, impressive performance and amazing camera tech.

The LG G6 isn’t quite as slender or sexy, but takes the S7 Edge head-on with its QHD+ HDR-supporting screen. The G6 has a bigger display boasting stronger contrast and just as punchy visuals, while its Snapdragon 821 processor makes for better performance. Can the G6 beat the S7 Edge’s excellent 12-megapixel camera though, which is ideal for low-light photography?

LG G6 vs Google Pixel XL

Google’s Pixel XL is a mighty 5.5-inch phone, but still more compact than the 5.7-inch LG G6 – not to mention more slender. However, the G6 is fully water resistant, something the Pixel phone most definitely isn’t.

You get a super-sharp screen in both cases, but only the G6 supports HDR visuals and boasts a microSD memory card for expanding the storage. Both phones pack a Snapdragon 821 processor, plus one of the best smartphone cameras around.

LG G6 vs Sony Xperia XZ

The LG G6 is a water resistant smartphone just like the Xperia XZ, and not much bigger either despite packing a 5.7-inch screen compared with the Sony phone’s compact 5.2-inch display. Both screens are sharp, bright and vibrant, although the G6 wins for resolution (2880×1440 vs 1920×1080), contrast levels and colour range.

If you want a Sony phone with truly impressive visuals, check out the 4K HDR panel on the Xperia XZ Premium.

The Xperia XZ packs Sony’s excellent camera tech, shooting detail-packed photos in almost any lighting conditions. LG’s G6 camera features a wide-angle secondary lens however, making it better suited to funky and original-looking photos. You also get stronger performance, with a more up-to-date Snapdragon chipset.

LG G6 vs OnePlus 3T

The OnePlus 3T remains one of the best-value Android phones out there, offering the same premium specs and performance as most other flagship devices while seriously undercutting their asking price. After all, the £699 LG G6 is £300 more expensive than the £399 OnePlus 3T – or almost twice the price.

Both phones pack a Snapdragon 821 processor, although the OnePlus 3T impressively has 6GB of RAM compared with the 4GB inside the LG G6. And while the G6 sports a more spacious 5.7-inch HDR screen with impressive contrast levels and a sharper resolution, the 3T holds its own with a gorgeously vibrant Full HD 5.5-inch display.

The G6 packs a dual-lens rear camera which boasts a bunch of extra features for capturing original and intriguing snaps. But while the OnePlus 3T sports a more straight-up 16-megapixel snapper, it’s still perfectly fine for capturing everyday shots.

That said, the G6 is water resistant and boasts expandable storage, two things you won’t find on the OnePlus 3T.

LG G6 vs Huawei P10

Huawei’s new P10 smartphone packs the very good EMUI 5.1 overlay on top of Android Nougat, while LG’s G6 mobile offers plenty of bonus features of its own. Both handsets give a sleek and satisfying user experience, complete with smart resource management and tools to maintain performance.

The P10 is a lot more compact than the G6, at 5.1-inches compared with 5.7-inches. The G6’s chunky frame is fully water resistant though, an advantage if you’ve got butter fingers and like using your phone in the bath. And while the P10’s Full HD screen boasts accurate image reproduction, the QHD+ HDR-supporting LG G6 produces more breath-taking visuals.

Both handsets here pack a dual-lens camera on the back. But while the P10’s lenses work together to produce stunning bokeh and depth of field photos, the G6 has a separate wide-angle lens that can be used instead of the main snapper.
