The mini-LED MacBook Pro is a step closer to release. A report from DigiTimes indicates that Radiant Opto-Electronics will be supplying the mini-LED backlight units and Quanta Computer will be assembling the new Mac laptops.
Ming-Chi Kuo had suggested back in March 2020 that a MacBook Pro with a mini-LED screen would arrive by the end of 2020, but he later changed his forecast – suggesting that Apple’s plans had been pushed back to 2021 due to Coronavirus pandemic-related supply problems for the mini-LED displays.
Kuo updated his prediction in February 2021 indicating that Apple will launch two new MacBook Pro models utilising mini-LED displays in the second half of 2021. Read: Apple will correct old mistakes with new MacBook Pro models
Apple is thought to be making some tweaks to the design of these new MacBook Pro – with the smaller model getting a bigger 14in display and both models seeing smaller bezels with rounded corners. It’s also anticipated that the new models will feature a MagSafe port for charging and a SD card reader. The Touch Bar is expected to be removed from the lineup.
These rear lighting mini-led should provide better colour reproduction, blacker blacks, higher contrast and greater dynamic range.
