It seems that scene is well and truly set for Nintendo to step into the limelight and take center stage, as the company revealed the NES Classic Edition console offering the best of the good ol’ 80’s retro gaming experience.
After seeing its stock price soar following the launch of the worldwide phenomenon Pokémon Go, the Japanese company has now served up a small slice of nostalgia by announcing that it plans to introduce a miniature version of its Nintendo Entertainment System (NES), which was first released into the market more than thirty years ago back in July, 1983. The new hardware, dubbed the Nintendo Entertainment System: NES Classic Edition, will look exactly like the original hardware, albeit on a much smaller scale.
The console itself is an extremely likeable mix of old and new. From a visual perspective, the main hardware will have that familiar look and feel to it, and will even feature the same lift-up style lid design even though it won’t require any gaming cartridges to be inserted.
The colors, product markings and even the hardware-based buttons are identical to the original. And of course, what good would a classic Nintendo Entertainment System be without the iconic NES Controller to accompany it? That, and the packing, both of which look almost exactly like the original version from 80s.
While the hardware visuals, styling, and gaming experience may be straight out of the 1980s, but it does also ship with some modern twists. Connectivity to a television set will be via an HDMI cable, and the gorgeous looking NES Controller will offer a connectivity feature that will allow it to be paired with a Wii Remote in order to play Virtual Console games on a Wii or Wii U. Part of gaming element has also been brought up to standard with the console shipping with 30 pre-installed games as part of the package.
No more bulky cartridges and no more fumbling around looking for the game that you want to play at any given time. The complete list of built-in games is as follows:
- Balloon Fight
