Android 7.1.1 Nougat Nexus 6 Problems: Persistent Speakerphone Echo Troubles Users

After receiving the long awaited update to Android 7.1.1 Nougat in December, Nexus 6 owners are now experiencing speakerphone issues with the device, according to Android Police. Handsets project echoes and screeching while users attempt to put a call on speakerphone.

Several Nexus 6 users have taken to Google’s forums and the Android Open Source Project Issue Tracker for a resolution. So far, the only suggestion has been muting the device’s microphone while on speakerphone. However, that is not a long-term solution.

Google has not laid out a fix for the Android 7.1.1 Nougat problem as yet. It remains to be seen if Google will even address the issue. Due to its age, pundits expect the Nexus 6 may not receive further updates.

Many were surprised when Google did roll out the Android 7.1.1 Nougat update for the Nexus 6. The tech giant noted that the smartphone did not update alongside other Google products due to a bug specific to that device.

Nexus 6 users who have not yet updated their handsets to the new software may want to hold off to see if a fix will be implemented.
