Nokia launches 4 new phones at MWC 2017, reintroduces Nokia 3310

Nokia, as a brand, was taken over by HMD Global of China in 2016. Since the takeover, this is the company’s first appearance at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona where it announced 4 new phones for the international market.

Let’s have a look at what all was announced on Sunday.

1. Nokia 6

The company’s most expensive smartphone in the new lineup, Nokia 6 was relaunched at MWC after witnessing a big China launch last year. The smartphone had received over a million registrations in China and has been critically praised for the quality and durability of materials used. The Nokia 6 is powered by the 1.1 GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 830 processor and comes with 3GB of RAM and 32GB internal storage, expandable up to 128GB via microSD card. It has been priced at 229 Euros or around $220.

2. Nokia 5

Apart from the Nokia 6, the company has yet another mid-range smartphone in the bandwagon. The Nokia 5 is a compact smartphone with a 5.2-inch HD display. The Nokia 5 is also powered by the 1.1 GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 830 processor and comes with 3GB of RAM and 32GB internal storage, expandable up to 128GB via microSD card. It has been priced at 189 Euros or around $200. The only difference between the Nokia 6 and Nokia 5 is the screen size which gives the Nokia 5 a price difference of around 40 Euros.

3. Nokia 3

The first budget smartphone from Nokia (under HMD) is the Nokia 3. The Nokia 3 is the cheapest Android-powered device from Nokia. It has a similar design language like the Nokia 6 and Nokia 5. The Nokia 3 is powered by a 1.3GHz quad-core MediaTek 6737 processor and comes with 2GB of RAM and 16GB internal storage, expandable up to 128GB via microSD card. It has been priced at 139 Euros or around $150.

4. Nokia 3310

Nokia 3310

The most anticipated launch of all is probably this one. The Nokia 3310 is a yesteryear feature phone that was extremely successful in its time, because of the battery backup and durability. Nokia has seemingly relaunched the 3310 in a funky new avatar, with color schemes like Blue, Gold and Red adorning the new design. It looks and feels a lot like the older version and has 24 hours of talktime and a month of standby time. The phone packs in 16MB of internal storage, expandable up to 32GB via SD card. It is a dual-SIM phone that runs Series 30 and is powered by a 1200mAh removable battery. The Nokia 3310 is priced at 49 Euros or around $59.

Other Announcements

Apart from the smartphones and feature phones, Nokia also announced that their popular mobile game, Snake, would be coming to the Facebook Messenger under their Games section. Also, the company is tying up with Google to provide a near-stock Android experience on their new smartphones. All of Nokia’s smartphones will be powered by the latest Android 7.0 Nougat.
