NVIDIA DLSS Comes To Unreal Engine 4 – More Games To Get Performance Boosting Feature Frequently

NVIDIA has released a plugin for DLSS support in Unreal Engine 4, which will make it easier for developers to implement the performance-boosting feature in games.

In a press release, NVIDIA also said that Reflex support is available with another plugin. You can learn more about NVIDIA Reflex here.

Epic Games’ Unreal Engine is one of the largest game development platforms, mostly because of its free cost and feature support. In the last few years we’ve seen various games, from the smallest indie platformers to AAA giants, move to Unreal Engine. The new plugin for DLSS will only make the end-user experience better, providing higher framerates without losing visual fidelity. Here’s a list of well-known games using Unreal Engine which have/ might get DLSS soon enough on PC:

  • Final Fantasy 7 Remake
  • Fortnite
  • Ghostrunner
  • Godfall
  • Borderlands 3
  • Gears 5
  • Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice

“DLSS is a deep learning super-resolution network that boosts frame rates by rendering fewer pixels and then using AI to construct sharp, higher resolution images. Dedicated computational units on NVIDIA RTX GPUs called Tensor Cores accelerate the AI calculations, allowing the algorithm to run in real-time. DLSS pairs perfectly with computationally intensive rendering algorithms such as real-time ray tracing. The technology has been used to increase performance in a broad range of games, including Fortnite, Cyberpunk 2077, Minecraft, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, and Death Stranding.” – NVIDIA Press Release.

We’ve previously covered DLSS 2.0 in-depth with Remedy Entertainment’s Control, where we appreciated the performance boost with minimal loss in visual quality. With the addition of the feature in Unreal Engine natively, we’ll hopefully get some well-optimised PC ports in the future, especially considering just how expansive Unreal Engine is going to become.
