Pokémon Go App Arrives On Apple Watch, How To Use It

Back in September, Niantic announced Pokémon Go would be coming to the Apple Watch before the end of the year. Since then, there have been numerous reports claiming the company canceled those plans.

On Thursday, Niantic put those rumors to rest by announcing Pokemon Go is finally available for Apple Watch.

Pokémon Go smartwatch app lets users find nearby Pokémon, collect items from PokéStops and log each play sensation as a workout.

Here’s what Pokémon Go on the smartwatch app will let you do, according to Niantic.

  • Log each play session as a workout, with gameplay counting toward personal activity rings
  • Receive notifications about nearby pokémon
  • Count distance toward hatching pokémon eggs and receiving candy with your buddy pokémon
  • Receive notifications about pokéStops nearby and collect items from them
  • Receive notifications when eggs hatch and medals are awarded

In addition, Niantic says that if you want to catch a Pokémon, you’ll still need to use your iPhone.

The new smartwatch app will help Pokémon Go players get a lot of exercise. The company recently announced trainers have walked more than 8.7 billion kilometers in their journey to capture Pokémon. That’s adds up to more than 200,000 trips around the world, Niantic said.

In the last few weeks Niantic has launched new in-game events, released the Pokémon game in India and add a few new creatures to collect.
