Q.1. Is Jio Phone a smartphone or a feature phone?
Ans. Jio Phone is a feature phone which means it’ll not come with any touch screen. It’ll come with a standard display along with a keypad to type.
Q.2. How much will Jio Phone cost? What does zero effective cost mean?
Ans. You’ll need to deposit Rs. 1500 to purchase the Jio Phone. You can use the phone for 36 months i.e. 3 years and after 3 years you can return the phone and get your Rs. 1500 back which makes the effective cost of Jio Phone zero.
Q.3. Is voice call and 4G data free for lifetime in Jio Phone?
Ans. You’ll need to recharge your Jio Phone with Rs. 153 voucher every month to get unlimited 4G data (500MB daily FUP) and voice calls. You can also recharge using Rs. 309 voucher to get unlimited 4G data (1GB daily FUP) and voice calls. You’ll also get some other sachet plans such as Rs. 54 weekly and Rs. 24 for a two-day plan.
Q.4. Which operating system does Jio Phone use? Is it Google Android, iOS or Windows Phone?
Ans. Jio Phone is not based on Android, iOS or Windows Phone OS. It uses KaiOS which is a forked version of Mozilla Firefox OS. KaiOS has been developed as a lite-OS for feature phones and low memory devices.
Q.5. Will I be able to install and use my favorite Android or iOS apps on Jio Phone?
Ans. No. Since its based on Firefox OS, it’ll only support apps available on the Firefox app store. Currently there are very few apps available on Firefox OS but general apps such as Facebook, YouTube, Google, etc are available.
Q.6. So which apps will I get on Jio Phone?
Ans. All Jio apps such as Jio TV, Jio Cinema, Jio Music, Jio Play, Jio Money and so on will come preinstalled on Jio Phone. You’ll also get Facebook app on Jio Phone.
Q.7. Is WhatsApp available on Jio Phone?
Ans. No. At the moment WhatsApp is not available on Jio Phone but it might come on the Jio Phone in near future.
Q.8. What are the main features of Jio Phone?
Ans. Jio Phone will come with 2.4″ QVGA display with a resolution of 240×320 pixels, 4G LTE support, SD card slot, FM Radio, Torch light, Bluetooth, NFC and four-way navigation system. It’ll support voice commands to send messages, make voice calls and surf the Internet. It’ll also support 22 Indian languages.
Q.9. Is Jio Phone a dual SIM phone? Can I use other service operators SIM such as Airtel, Idea, Vodafone, BSNL, Tata Docomo, etc in Jio Phone?
Ans. No. Jio Phone is a single SIM (GSM) phone and only Jio SIM will work on this phone. Its locked to Jio network and you can’t insert and use any other operator SIM in Jio Phone.
Q.10. Does Jio Phone have Wi-Fi Hotspot feature to use its Internet in other phones?
Ans. No. Jio Phone doesn’t support Wi-Fi Hotspot feature but the phone hardware supports it, so Reliance Jio may enable Wi-Fi Hotspot feature in future via a software update.
Q.11. Which processor has been used in Jio Phone?
Ans. Reliance Jio has not mentioned processor name but according to my sources, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 2.5 mobile platform processor has been used in Jio Phone. It’s a basic processor but for a feature phone its quite good.
Q.12. Any information about total memory (RAM) and internal storage?
Ans. No official information yet but it might come with 512MB RAM and 4GB internal storage which can be expanded using MicroSD card.
Q.13. How is the quality of Jio Phone’s camera?
Ans. You’ll get 2MP rear camera and a VGA front camera which is sufficient for a feature phone.
Q.14. How is the battery life of Jio Phone?
Ans. There is no official information about how much mAh battery is present in the Jio Phone but according to my sources it contains 2000 mAh battery. Since its a feature phone the battery life will be good. It doesn’t contain any HD touch screen or power consuming apps so you’ll get good battery life on this phone.
Q.15. How can I book Jio Phone?
Ans. The beta testing of Jio Phone will start from August 15. The pre-booking of Jio Phone will start from August 24 and the phone will go on sale from September. You can book Jio Phone via MyJio app, Jio website and Reliance Digital stores.
