Quick Fix: VPN Session Ended Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client


Here is a quick tip for anyone who relies on Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client to connect to a VPN server at work. If for some reason your VPN stopped connecting without any error prompt, it’s a good idea to go to the Message History tab of the Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client to check any suspicious messages from the log. In my case, the VPN provider specifically has a rule setup to ensure only one user at any given time is connected to the VPN via a remote terminal.

“AnyConnect profile settings mandate a single local user, but multiple local users are currently logged into your computer. A VPN connection will not be established. AnyConnect was not able to establish a connection to the specified secure gateway. Please try connecting again.”

To fix this, make sure there is no other local user logged into this computer other than you. If you are not sure whether or not others have logged in. Go to Task manager > Users tab and check for additional logged in user. Depend on your Windows version and configuration, it is possible to also have a remote user logged in while you are using the computer, in which case, you also need to terminate the remote desktop user.

That’s the quick fix for your VPN connection if the session ended as soon as you logged in.
