Remove Edit With Photos Option From Windows 10 Context Menu

With the Creators Update for Windows 10 (v1703), Microsoft added two new options to the file context menu. When you right-click on an image file, Edit with Paint 3D and Edit with Photos options appear near the top of the context menu.

We have previously shown you how to remove the Edit with Paint 3D option from the context menu. In this guide, we will see how to remove or add the Edit with Photos option.

As the name suggests, when you click Edit with Photos option, the image file is opened with the Photos app. You can edit the image by using various settings and options in the Photos app.

If you use a third-party program or app to edit pictures in Windows 10 and never or rarely use the default Photos app to edit photos, you can consider removing the Edit with Photos option from the image context menu of Windows 10.

There are two ways to get rid of Edit with Photos option from Windows 10 file context menu. You can easily remove Edit with Photos option by setting a different app or program other than Photos app as the default picture viewer. For instance, you can set the classic Windows Photo Viewer. In short, the Edit with Photos option shows up only if the Photos app is the default picture viewer. So, if the option is not appearing, it’s because Photos app is not the default picture viewer.

But if you wish to continue using Photos app as the default picture viewer, you can manually edit Windows Registry to remove Edit with Photos option.

Method 1 of 2

Set any other app/program as default photo viewer

As said, setting a program or app other than Photos will remove Edit with Photos option from file context menu. Here is how to do that.

Step 1: Open Settings app. Navigate to Apps > Default apps.

The Edit with Photos option should not appear now when you right-click on a picture file.

To restore the option, delete Programmaticaccessonly key.
